Revenue Derivation And Allocation In Nigeria: What's The Way Forward? by Nobody: 5:28am On Jul 21, 2014
Over the years, the issue of revenue generation and allocation has been of central concern in the Nigerian socio-political and economic scene. From pre-independence till post-independence 1980, Nigeria had over 7 commissions set up to find a lasting solution to the problem. More recently the constituted National Conference was seen as a means of tackling this problem once and for all. However, it seems no permanent solution will be coming forth shortly. At least not with majority of the Southerners crying for a greater percentage in revenue allocation (primarily on the basis of derivation) and the Northerners arguing for the bigger share on the national cake (arguably on the basis of population, need and landmass).

:One important point I have noted is that all bodies set up to look into and find solution to this problem always argue that their inability to achieve the stated goal is as a result of lack of technical know-how as regards the subject matter. Is that the truth or is greed, pride and ethno-religious affirnities causing these people to continously fail in their responsibility?

On a closing note, I would like to invite rational and well versed NLs to lend their voice on the subject matter. While the elders figure out how to share the wealth of the land, let us also follow-up so we don't get shortchanged. ;DOver the years, the issue of revenue generation and allocation has been of central concern in the Nigerian socio-political and economic scene.
