Secretary of the South-South Peoples Assembly (SSPA), Ayakeme Whisky, has said that former Niger Delta militants would be justified in their calls to take up arms against the state and hamper oil production if President Jonathan is harassed not to contest the elections in 2015.

“I can only support that viewpoint (of ex-militants’ threat to shut oil production) if Jonathan’s refusal is observed and confirmed to be a product of threat from people because he is a minority.

“Then the ex-militants have more than genuine reason. We are all equal stakeholders in this country.

“ So, if anybody, through bit of cajoling, directly or indirectly, tries to prevent Jonathan from contesting and if that comes to the fore and the ex-militants are called to make that statement in reaction to such very subtle or obvious threat from people, then they deserve to, because, they have to protect their minority rights.

“If you don’t find me good enough to lead Nigeria, don’t also find my resources good enough to develop you,” he said.
