Re: 2001 Grand Cherokee Jeep: Limited Edition! by sdbaba: 2:33am On Oct 23, 2008
I think you should consider the guys offering 1.1M and 1.2M for this ride. By my calculations, that is about $9500 - $10300 for the ride. This ride in the US wouldn't sell for even $5000 as I know the value on a car reduces by 10% for every year of use, so 7 years is less 70% of the original value. So do ur maths well and see if the guys offering 1.1-1.2 have tried or not.
For me I'd rather go for a brand new car for around 1.6M-2M instead of blowing 1.2M on a 7-year old ride with higher fuel consumption and no warranties at all.
Good luck with your car sale!

@sdbaba. i will implore you to do ur stats. proper. ok assuming he bought that suv for $5000 personal use + TTL let's say $5500, shipping -$2000 , from houston shipping of that suv will cost you $2300 containerize, clearing #350000 =$3000. total of atleast $10,500, by current conversion rate this will give you #1.24m so how much did you expect this guy to sell the suv with all this calculation

Thanks Jonyjay! God will surely answer all your prayers, all your dealing shall be fruitful in Jesus Name, Amen.
As fo sdbaba, no hard feelings towards you, you have the right to voice your opinion. However, you proven that you are so ignorant. I will not curse you, but what i will do is pray with this bible verse "Psalm 6 V 8-10, and hand you over to God for further judgement.

That's exactly what I'm saying my man Jonjay, why should I drive a used car that will cost me $5000 in the US for $10,000 in Naija? can you compare the standard of living in Naija with that of the US? It's high time we wake up and realise that this cannot continue for much longer. My present two cars in naija are Tokunbo but I tell you I'm tired of it because I work with colleagues from all over the world and everytime they change their cars and tell me how much it cost them, my belly just aches that that is what I'm using to buy their Tokunbo's in naija. The good thing is that car manufacturers are now bombarding naija with a lot of offers. currently about six banks are offering car loans with a five year repayment scheme and the car will come with all the freebies of buying a new car - free insurance, 3 yrs warranty, free servicing for first 10,000km and all that.

Charlobaba, there's no need for the Bible passage you sent to me, I'm a xtian myself and I'm not ur enemy. I'm only expressing my own mind about buying Tokunbo cars for that much. It's my own personal opinion which has no bearings whatsoever on who will buy ur cars in the end. You'll help naija better if you can help convince some car companies to come to naija and do business so we can all pride ourselves in driving "tear-rubbers" too. may be you're not aware also that most bankers and guys/ladies working in good firms in naija are now priding themselves in driving "tear-rubbers", that's just the new vogue in town and very soon the worm will eat into others who still patronise Tokunbo's. It's always a good business strategy to look ahead of ur market in the next 3-5yrs and place urself in a better position to still be relevant so the change in trend doesn't take you by surprise.

Good luck with the sale of this beautiful machine though, I bear you no grudge my brother

You should go talk to the man that collected N350, 000 from him at the ports first, then send another message to the shipping company. Copy your (s)elected president on efforts you are making for Nigerians to get more affordable transport. When you've done those simple things and you actually get a response from them, I'll be glad to help you chew on this greedy seller for trying to make as much profit as he paid as import duty considering the minimal trouble and risk he went through.

so great a calculation and bank offers! Why don't you go ahead give away your tokunbo's and buy yourself new ones and see how the payment works. We don't have to share same ideas, and please stop comparing Nigeria to America. I don't know if you have lived or visited Yankee! This country is over 230 years old, so stop thinking that Nigeria will just jump up one morning and do the same w/out going through lots of process and commitment. Nigerians always wants the easy way out, and as long as this continues, the gap between the rich and the poor will furthermore expand without control and we will continue to mortgage our childrens future,
When you buy a new car financed by one of those six banks you mentioned for N5m @ 19% APR for five years, what do you think the final overall payment of that car will be? have it in mind that cars depreciates. These deals sounds and looks great, that's when you are one of those that embezzle Nigerian money and not for Nigerians doing there very best to live by.
