1. Rockets launched from a site inside the Gaza Strip head toward Israel as seen from a lookout point in southern Israel, on July 17, 2014. Shortly afterward there was an explosion at the site of the launches.

2. People dive into the Mediterranean Sea on a hot summer's day in Nice, France, on July 21.

4. Undocumented immigrant families walk before being taken into custody by Border Patrol agents on July 21, near McAllen, Texas. Thousands of immigrants, many of them minors from Central America, have crossed illegally into the United States this year, causing an unprecentented humanitarian crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border.

5. A convoy of hearses in the Netherlands carries coffins with the remains of victims of the downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, on July 23. The first bodies from flight MH17 arrived in the Netherlands on Wednesday almost a week after it was shot down over Ukraine, as the conflict flared yet again near the Malaysian airliner's crash site.

6. A man pushes his electric bicycle against strong winds and heavy rain along a flooded seaside street as Typhoon Rammasun hit Haikou ,China, on July 18. It was the strongest typhoon to hit southern China in 41 years, with wind speeds reaching 130 mph. The typhoon caused 151 deaths in China, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

7. The girlfriend of Israeli soldier Tal Yifrah lies atop his grave during his funeral in Rishon Lezion near Tel Aviv on July 22. Israel has lost at least 32 soldiers in clashes with Gaza as the conflict enters its third week.

8. Palestinian medics treat a wounded girl at the emergency room of the Shifa hospital in Gaza City, early July 18. The heavy thud of tank shells, often just seconds apart, echoed across the Gaza Strip early Friday as thousands of Israeli soldiers launched a ground invasion.

9. Palestinians mourn the death of their relatives, whom medics said were killed in Israeli shelling, at a hospital morgue in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip on July 21. The Palestinian death toll in the conflict that began on July 8 reached over 750 on its 17th day.

11. Williams Formula One driver Felipe Massa of Brazil crashes with his car in the first corner after the start of the German F1 Grand Prix at the Hockenheim racing circuit, July 20.

12. A DC-10 air tanker is dwarfed by the tip of a rising smoke cloud as the plane prepares to drop fire retardant over a wildfire July 19, near Carlton, Wash. A wind-driven, lightning-caused wildfire racing through rural north-central Washington destroyed about 150 homes, leaving behind solitary brick chimneys and burned-out automobiles as it blackened hundreds of square miles in the scenic Methow Valley northeast of Seattle.

My heart goes out to every family that has lost a life recently, especially in Palestine and Israel. Too many sad pictures
