IGP M.D Abubakar Set To Retire by ajisdavid: 10:44pm On Jul 26, 2014
The latest reports allege that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar is set to retire soon.

According to The Nation, Abubakar’s tenure expires on July 31, 2014 and President Goodluck Jonathan has not touched upon the issue of his tenure extension.

It was also added that the Police Service Commission (PSC) had shortlisted Abubakar’s 2 Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs), 2 Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs) and a Commissioner of Police (CP) as his potential successors.

The final choice is to be made by Jonathan, who reportedly might make it any moment. Thus the President failure to extend Abubakar’s tenure until July 31 will mean his automatic retirement.

The source was quoted saying:
“This is because that is his terminal date in the police. If it happens that a new IGP is not appointed, he will hand over to the most senior officer, that is the DIG ‘A’ Department. He (Abubakar) cannot stay a day beyond July 31, unless his tenure is extended. This is because all his course mates would retire on that day. In fact, about 60 senior officers are retiring this July.”

Another indication of possible retirement is the fact that Jonathan requested from the PSC the profiles of those who might qualify for the position.

PM News recalls that Abubakar, born on May 1958 in Zamfara State, joined police force in 1979. Throughout years in service he had attended numerous professional courses in Nigeria and abroad, and had occupied various positions. In November, 2011 he was appointed IGP and became the 16th person to hold the office of Inspector General.

He's leaving without any of those police reforms he promised us. Police baracks are still looking like pig farms. I guess, the only reform he was able to bring was introduction of an additional uniform to the existing ones. Like oga(gej), like him boys. He should bow out in shame. So-much-talk-and-no-action-people!
