Dangote Industries Limited yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the federal government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, to invest a total sum of $1 billion dollars equivalent to N165 billion for the development of integrated rice projects across five states.
Chairman of the group and African business mogul, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who made the revelation in Abuja during an interactive session with the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwumi Adeshina said the five beneficiary states include, Edo, Jigawa, Niger, Kebbi and Kwara.
According to Dangote, “Apart from producing rice, the investment will ensure that Nigeria begins to export rice, while creating thousands of jobs for the many unemployed Nigerian youths through the out-grower system. If Nigeria sorts the problem of power and agriculture in Nigeria, the nations GDP will grow at double digits,” he added.
