Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded
by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The
scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one-year Master's degrees – for
individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision makers and
opinion formers.
The Chevening programme began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious
international scheme. Chevening Scholars come from 160 countries and territories
worldwide (excluding the USA and the EU), and over 600 scholarships were awarded in
2014/2015. There are over 43,000 Chevening Alumni around the world who together
comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.
The name 'Chevening' comes from Chevening House in Sevenoaks, Kent – currently the
joint official residence of the British Foreign Secretary and the Deputy Prime Minister.

Who are Chevening Scholarships aimed at?
Chevening Scholarships are for talented people who have been identified as potential
future leaders across a wide range of fields including politics, business, the media, civil
society, religion, and academia. Applicants should be high calibre graduates with the
personal, intellectual and interpersonal qualities necessary for leadership.
What does a Chevening Scholarship cover?
Most Chevening Scholarships cover:
tuition fees (there is a global Chevening fee cap of £13,000 for MBA and
Master's in Finance). If the tuition fees of your chosen university course exceed
this amount, you will be required to fund the remainder.
a living allowance at a set rate (for one individual)
an economy class return airfare to the UK
additional grants to cover essential expenditure
Some scholarships cover part of the cost of studying in the UK, for example, tuition fees
only or allowances only. Please check the individual country pages for more details.
What else does a Chevening Scholarship offer?
An expanded range of Chevening events will be available to Chevening Scholars while on
their awards in the UK. The purpose of these events is to engage a substantial number
of current scholars in the widening Chevening network.
When you complete your studies and return to your home country, your relationship with
Chevening does not end. Numbering 43,000 worldwide, Chevening Alumni comprise an
influential and highly regarded global network. They have an excellent record of rising to
positions of leadership across a wide range of fields including politics, business, the
media, civil society, religion, and academia. You will join this network and continue to
benefit from your affiliation with the programme.
What kind of applicants are we looking for?
Applicants should be high calibre graduates with the personal, intellectual and
interpersonal qualities necessary for leadership. Evidence of leadership experience and
potential is critical. The British Embassy or High Commission in each country where
Chevening operates has identified a number of priority areas on which to focus the
Chevening Scholarships Programme in 2015/2016. Applicants can choose any course of
study but applications in one or more of the priority areas are particularly welcome. More
information can be found on the relevant country page.
The typical successful applicant:
Is a professional graduate in early or mid-career, who displays both intellectual
ability and clear leadership potential
Has completed at least two years' work or equivalent experience before applying
(including voluntary work and paid or unpaid internships)
Is committed to return to his/her home country and contribute by implementing
the new skills and knowledge acquired in the UK
Has a proven track record of professional excellence and achievement, with the
prospect of becoming a leader in his/her chosen field
Is able to demonstrate that he/she possesses the personal qualities to benefit
from the scholarship and use it to succeed in his/her chosen career
Is keen to engage with the wider Chevening community while in the UK and on
return to his/her home country
Has a clear idea of how the scholarship will benefit his/her country on his/her
return.
This is in addition to standard and other eligibility criteria.

@MoyoGeneral
it seems there are no chevener in the house OR is it that most are not informed? When I searched for this thread I was hoping to see a bubbling thread not a static one. Nevertheless thanks for initiating the thread. Though am hoping to be a chevener for next academic year.
