We won’t close Eko Bridge, as repairs begin, Lagos Govt assures

By Phillip Oladunjoye - Senior Correspondent

The Lagos State Government has clarified that although the planned repairs of Eko Bridge begin next weekend, there would only be a phased partial closure at each expansion joint location.

Speaking in his office at Alausa Thursday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, said the state government through its Ministry of Works & Infrastructure, would, through the contractor Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, begin work in Surulere/Lagos Island Local Government Area for a period of 71 days.

The construction work will be between Saturday, August 23 and Monday, October 27, 2014, as part of the bridge expansion joint replacement exercise, which has touched many bridges in the state.

Continuing, Opeifa said as part of the traffic management strategies for the exercise, there would be successive partial closure of Eko Bridge carriageway at each expansion joint location, advising motorists and other road users to use alternative routes to avoid delays.

The state government, he said, appeals for caution and co-operation from all road users by obeying all traffic regulations and ensure traffic flow during the maintenance period, adding that the State Government has directed all relevant agencies to ensure free flow of traffic as well as regretted any inconvenience.

Omo we go suffer oo. Island things no go make sense at all

Now I wake up at 5.30am so as to get to work at 8. Now I would have to start waking up at 5am for a while three months.

The traffic on that Eko bridge on a normal day is bad not to talk more of when repairs would be taking place.

Fashola is working sha. At least we can see that repairs are taking place. When would the Niger bridge be completed.
Just asking grin

What would be the duration of the repair?

Maybe we shd start doing govnorship/presidency election evry year cos when election is getting close politicians get to work more. Tuition fee reduction, massive commissioning, road re construction. State tour etc.
