Irrespective of the discord and strong opposition from some sections of Rivers State against the emergence of another Governor from the Ikwerre’s after Governor Amaechi in 2015, the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan has insisted that the Ikwerre born Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike was the most qualified candidate to govern Rivers State after Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

The first lady confirmed in her statement about the earlier self declaration by the Minister that he remains ghe only one to beat in the forthcoming elections should he decides to vie for the governorship of the State.
The First Lady stated this at a confidential meeting she had with the people of Okrika ethnic nationality on her visit to the state last week in Port Harcourt. Stating that she was not going back on her support to Chief Nyesom Wike, giving reasons to her kinsmen to join hands with her till the Minister of Education succeeds governor Amaechi. Attributing her support as a reward for the Minister for his resistance to Amaechi who had been but a thorn in the flesh of the President – her husband.

The Meeting was attended by some selected stakeholders from Wakirike Origins of Ogu-Bolo, Okrika and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas of the State, who came to hear the reactions of the First Lady and whom she gives her support.

However, it is learnt that aside from the leader of the outlawed Niger Delta Vigilante Force(NDVF), High Chief Ateke Tom who had earlier made his intention known, to run the gubernatorial race through a formidable Sekuro Foundation group as his political machinery/pressure front to achieve his ambition, the likes of the former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo and the distinguish Senator George Sekibo are all warming up for same race.
In light of that, she stress and warned against the struggle for an Okrika governor, urging them to adopt a gradual struggle to realise their ambition in future elections and not in the 2015 election.

She also laid emphasis on the numerical voters strength the Ikwerres could offer in support of Nyesom Wike as flag-bearer of the PDP, a vote the Okrikans cannot pull substantially for PDP to win the election here in Rivers State.

These people you mentioned aren't political heavyweights. The support they enjoy from a minority of the Rivers public cannot be bankable during the elections. Wike is being backed by the president and his strong wife Amaechi barely has any federal support or anything similar. He is wasting his time.
