Midterm elections are those held in the middle of an American President's term in office.

This year's election, which holds on November 4th, will feature elections into 33 U.S Senate seats, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 46 state legislatures, 38 gubernatorial seats, and some other local (county and city) elections.

States such as California, Iowa, New York, South Carolina and Texas will be amongst the main gubernatorial races.

The 100-member U.S. Senate is presently made up of 55 Democrats and 45 Republicans. Amongst the Democratic Senators are 2 Senators who are technically Independents, but caucus and vote along with the Dems on key legislation. On the other hand, the U.S. House of Reps comprises 233 Republicans, 199 Democrats and 3 vacancies.
