I'd like to know if java certs really really can make a light and day difference in one's to career.
Like certs can in other professions
(e.g ican /acca for accountants)
The one i'm thinkg of is ocjp.
I know it doesnt really test programming ability (ocjm does but it cost about $900 for compulsory traing) but it's a pre requisite to others.

If it's not,then what is d better way to boost a programming career short of enterprenuership.

Wat's d career flexibility of a programmer with java certs with one without it?

Pros:
- java certs dont expire
- internationally recognized

cons:
a waste of money if it dont bring in big bucks - salary wise.

- more expensive thn other certs, especially after oracle acquired sun.
In the time of sun corp, A programmer cud take scjp (now ocjp) without prerequisites and without payg d hefty traing fees.

- java, the lang mayb dying out.
Too much predctions tht scala,clojure is the way to go for jvm language.

I dont know about certifications, but Im really suspicious on the affect certifications and degrees have in our society, especially when most billionaires (software billionaires) that I know don't have a certification or degree.

Mostofdemma enterprenuers with sombody with deep pocket to finance their ideas. I'm talkg from d employee perspectve.
At d endof d day techprenuers will still need2hire employees.

ocjm = 900(traing)+~200(exam) =$1,100
these prices mayb too low. Last time I checked was last year.

I understand.

It can. But a project at hand with proof of ownership can be worth more than the certificate. Ask urself what happens in feilds of IT like webdesign and embedded programming where certification isn't so common?
Btw i will like to know about the cost attached to the new ocjp exams, at least up to the OCJP level.
