Alhaji Aminu Maigari has officially resigned as the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), with effect from August 26, 2014.

A letter from the SA Media to the Honourable Minister of Sports, Patrick Omorodion, read: “The Bauchi-born administrator resigned as NFF President on August 12, 2014 to pave way for a peaceful resolution of the crisis that engulfed the football federation shortly after the 2014 FIFA World Cup.”

This new development happens ahead of the NFF Congress, which will be held on Tuesday in Abuja, with the elections to be conducted in two weeks

He wasn't going to enjoy an extended stay anyways.

I guess this was his only option.

By the reckoning of the powers that be in Nigeria's football establishment, it seems expedient to sacrifice Maigari so that some favoured people can achieve their political objectives. But I fear that theirs is merely a pyrrhic victory, for they have neither addressed the underlying problem of corruption in Nigerian football nor is it guaranteed that Maigari's successor will experience more stability and longevity of tenure than Maigari did. In the end, it is football that suffers. So, although I am no fan of Maigari, I remain unconvinced that his removal will improve Nigerian football. It is doubtful whether his successor can even replicate, let alone surpass, his modest achievements.

Maigari wasn't anointed to go further. His best bet is to resign.Unfortunately, another anointed person will be made to govern again.Until we separate football from politics/government,there is no ending to the crisis.

Who cares if he resign, after smartly setting the glass house on fire. Well, this might just be the chance for ex footballer to be NFF chairman or whatever you call it.
