The Federal Government has directed that all private and public primary and secondary schools should remain closed till 13th October, 2014 as a preventive measure against the spread of Ebola Virus Disease.

The preventive measures are decisions reached in a meeting the Minister of Education held with State Commissioners of Education in Abuja on tuesday (today). This measure was announced by the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau.

He said that any private school that fails to comply will be duly sanctioned by the State Ministry of Education.The Minister said that the government will go to any length to punish any school that fails to comply.He added all the State Ministries of Education are to immediately organise and ensure that at least two staff in each school, both public and private are trained on how to handle any suspected Ebola case.

Shekarau said the training of the staff on health must be concluded by 15th September, 2015.Shekarau said that he would meet with all State Commissioners of Education on 23rd September, 2014 to appraise the situation.

. Don't you people know how children behave? Even market women know how to protect their self. Its quite long but its necessary. Remember nigeria now has only one case of the ebola virus. If not for this things would have gotten worse. Nigerians just don't know how to think beyond today.

Not everywhere bro, most of them are on and will be closing this friday.

My children are quite a handful but if it's for their longterm safety, I don't mind going through the stress for a few more weeks. Children don't know how to protect themselves like we adults, it's just by God's grace and adults' guidance. It's an OK move if they will spend the extra time educating teachers and school owners. I pray they find a lasting solution to ebola quickly.

Acts like this make me remember we still have some responsible smart leaders.
My boys are a handful but keeping them safe beats all the stress in the world. At least lets be sure 2 cycles (21 + 21 = 42 days) have passed without another confirmed case, then we can be sure the virus is contained.

The pupils are not completely outta school. They still go to school for holiday classes. The difference is 12noon/4pm then mufti/uniform. Private sch teachers....Hmmmm
