ABUJA - The Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG,
campaign group has claimed that the Boko
Haram has up to 50,000 members in its camp
some of whom are desperate to die.
The BBOG group which disclosed this in Abuja,
yesterday, claimed it was quoting Mr. Ahmad
Salkida, a Nigerian journalist said to be close to
Boko Haram.
‘‘According to Mr. Ahmad Salkida, Boko Haram
has up to 50,000 people in their camps, most of
them are sad and willing to die–as suicide
bombers. If we’re not mindful our selfishness in
not standing up now will consume us all. For
these reasons and others, our advocacy must
continue; we must continue telling the truth and
demanding for it to be told,’’ the BBOG said.
The group urged good-spirited members of the
public to join the advocacy which it said must
continue until the abducted girls were returned
unharmed.
“We must continue telling the truth and
demanding for it to be told,’’ the group added.
It called on the federal government to double its
effort in tackling terrorism before it gets out of
hands and plunge the country into
unprecedented famine.
The group also raised the alarm that Nigeria
stands the risk of facing food scarcity, especially
beans, which Chibok is the highest producer in
the country and called for urgent measures to
avert the imminent danger.
‘‘Chibok for instance is the highest producer of
beans in the nation; the north-east the largest
producer of livestock and other produce, but
due to the insurgency, there has been no
farming; in due course there would be food
scarcity across the nation,’’ the group said.

My issue wit dis post is d area dat dey call on people to join d advocacy of BBOG, dey only distract d govt and encourage idleness, all our country need is prayer cos we are fighting devils.

Second, it is clearly impossible for the country not to feel the impact of 50,000 armed men...
Even the whole army of some countries are not more than 50,000.

my friend SHARRAP!!!....it's possible to have links with a terrorist organization without necessarily being a member or supporting their activities....many journalists like Ahmad Salkida all over the world do. Salkida had a very close PROFESSIONAL relationship with boko haram founder Mohammed Yusuf, and was supposed to write a magazine for boko haram before d group went haywire. He was wrongly accused of being a boko haram member and was harassed by security operatives, so he had to relocate abroad with his family....a few months ago, GEJ reached out to him and offered him a letter of idenmity to act as a negotiator between FG and boko haram. Salkida went to d boko haram camp and obtained a video of some of d girls, which he personally presented to GEJ....but along d line, negotiations broke down. You nigerians can be unnecessarily suspicious. Stop damaging d guy's image.

Some people are just so silly and blinded by self conceit. What is a big deal about boko haram having 50000 members, if over 3million attend redemption camp every month, over 100k in cannan land every Sunday etc you never asked who feed or where there census is done. The reality on ground is that the two religion are fighting for supremacy, the wish of an average Christian is to preach the Gospel and convert everybody to Christianity while the wish of an average Muslim is to coarse everybody to become a Muslim that's why you see reactions even here on nairaland whenever it is reported that someone convert from one religion to another. Christianity is totally against killings for God because there is a new testament to guide and that is the essence of the Gospel (king of peace) but Islam basically allign with old testament way where people are maim for God. The reality on ground is that boko haram if not quickly stemmed will not only be talking of 50k members but 50 million potential members. If millitants with no idealogy can recruit so much Nigerians what will it take boko haram backed by a twisted islamic ideology to recruit more

I barely comment on topics I have no tangible things to offer.
Now, Bh have more than 50,000 members but fewer than that stay in the camp. If anyone remembers their former modus operandi which is planting of bombs and drive by shootings, one would notice that they seem so emboldened now. I categorically tell you that this change of tactics came into place immediately the Northern elders and politicians voiced out that GEJ has declared war on the north. Before then, those men gave bh partial support but with the near decimation of their boys by Ihejirika's men, they closed ranks and are now giving bh full support. When last did those former crying borno elders complain about the killing of borno civilians like they use to do for bh? Has the killing of innocent indigenes stopped? No!
They are all silent now because they are enjoying the state of affairs.
