As you've rightly agreed ;Nigeria has the bigger GDP,which means there is more business going on in Nigeria than anywhere else in africa which makes it africa's economic hub.
Though i agree,SA has the better infrastructure, which is why SA has a stronger and more developed manufacturing sector than Nigeria.

Nigerians population outnumbered that of S/A at ratio of 5:1. More people, more business. But does that make it an economic hub? Not at all. For example, in the Asian market, one would expect China with their monstrous population and GDP to dominate, but that's not the case. Tokyo and Seoul held sway.

You see similar scenario in Africa where Nigeria held the highest GDP, while S/Africa controls the economy.
