Onegai: As usual, people will blame the US, APC and anyone else except themselves for their problems.

We import Paper, Toothpicks, Clothes, Shoes, Jewelry, Pencils, Palm oil, Apples, Almond oil, Fish and Meat, the list goes on.

Meanwhile, oil exports are our main business and corruption has given it to few wealthy people.

If we continue like this, we're going to be a big economy made up of 20% wealthy and 80% poor. And it's already showing: Education standards keep dropping (no-one accepts your local degrees internationally without backup from a foreign degree, public or private university), we are losing our Healthcare business to foreigners, just like Telecomms was lost. So Nigerians are getting poorer, but you can't see it until you change your salary to any foreign currency and realise you're too poor to relocate on your current income. You're also losing jobs, so that Employment you've been crying and praying for, it's not coming soon.

Instead of stoning every single politician in this country, so that they fear the masses and do the right thing, you are fighting for them, as if they will give you a job after (story!). Continue! Foreigners are happy to profit off Africa's foolishness, as usual.

We do not stone the politicians because they adequately represent our AGGREGATE values as individuals in the society.
How many of us support foreign football clubs, praise our Kings who celebrate birthdays in London, adore our celebrities who announce their engagement & wed in New York, Dubai etc while our national resorts, parks, monuments and other TOURIST landmarks for national PRIDE are rotting away due to NEGLECT

Moreover those of us who know better need to get MORE involved in the political process rather than shying away and letting thugs, retired COUP plotters, fraudsters, drug-money launderers etc decide our policies & fate. If we do not contribute money and volunteer our time, talents, efforts to these candidates how do we expect them to fund their campaigns and subsequently RECOUP their investments and those of the sponsoring godfathers

In the final analysis, awuf/ofe/freebies nor dey for life oh, definitely not from a politician.

Your comment shows part of the reason why Nigeria is in a bad state.

Some years ago, Edo State was revealled as the state with the highest number of girls working in prostitution. The then First Lady of the State, Mrs Eki Igbinedion promptly stated 'This is our problem'....and set up organs to help deal with the issue.(Eventually NAPTIP was set up). Now,I am not a fan of the Igbinedion dynasty....but that was good leadership, and a rare one too from a first lady.

When people point out your problems....don't pretend,as you are doing, that they do not exist. Source/think out solutions. And the road to competitiveness starts by improving education, power supply, and scientific innovation. We are not doing that enough. (and we may need to pay part of the costs for these improvements in the form of higher taxes, and higher fees, because frankly the oil money is not enough).
I never denied the fact that we have not done well, if u read my post well, u will see where i said we are coming back with full force...meaning they are better days ahead. Bw, i mentioned buhari et all in my post because they find joy in every evil news abt d country.

I guess it is a bit more complex. Values are there in society when you have leaders who are driving those values. Look at South EWest today and you will see the impact of education as sponsored by the likes of Awo. Even the younger people in SW do not have these values anymore because the region has failed to continue on driving values.

The crop of politicians we have today are consciously keeping the masses in the dark and robbing them of education and value creation so that the masses will be slaves forever.

We should not blame the populace when they have not been given the right education.

Nigeria will change when i didnot read in every second anser pray, we have to pray for the country.

I just read they start a 3 days prayer conference in Abuja about Nigeria, that it get better.

how can a country be better with this

Dear Watchmen,

As you may well know, being a watchman over your nation is a life time assignment. You keep pushing until the will and purpose of God is achieved.

Recently God asked me a question in response to some one’s complaint that the prayers are getting so much. The question came in my dialect but the English translation is this: CAN THE BLIND SEE…? I got the message immediately.

Anyone whose eyes are open in the Spirit cannot fail to realize that we are even yet to pray enough for Nigeria especially in this season. The daily unfolding events in the nation go to confirm this.

As I send this Prayer Guide for the month of September, it is with a special prayer – that God will open your eyes like that of Elisha’s Servant so that you will be provoked to pray with greater passion and understanding, knowing that God has assured that there is HOPE FOR NIGERIA.

This Prayer Guide will last for all of September.

As usual the FIRST and the LAST day Fast/Prayers will be observed by all WATCHMEN in the Houses of Prayer. Thereafter every Intercessor must choose at LEAST one or two other days to observe the fast/prayers every week.

Where possible central places of Prayers should be arranged where Intercessors on prayer duty on any given day can come together and observe the prayers.

Let the Prayer points serve as mere outlines. Intercessors should be at liberty to enlarge the prayer points as the Spirit of the Lord may lead. Leaders should remember to take off time to study the referenced scriptures well ahead of the prayer times.

I encourage you to PRINT OUT these prayer points and circulate them widely amongst praying and concerned WATCHMEN/CHURCHES.

May the Lord richly bless all who made contributions to this Prayer Guide and continue to depend on them. NIGERIA IS IN GOD’S HAND!!!

always praying and when should the people work!

Hopefully Nigeria will bounce back. The government should try harder to develop our infrastructure. That's our biggest problem. The ratio between recurrent and capital expenditures should be reviewed to allow more funds to critical sectors that would stimulate the economy. Ones our infrastructural development is set, Nigeria will join the ranks of top 10 biggest economies in the world.
Am particularly impressed with the performance of the Rwandan economy. This is a very good development considering the terrible thing that happened in the past. The performance of Rwanda as one of the most competitive economies shows that the country had really moved on. I strongly believe Rwanda will soon emerge as one of the most strongest economy is Africa.
God bless Rwanda.
God bless Nigeria

Before you say our votes don't count ask yourself why the politicians campaign and promise us heaven on earth literally to clinch our votes! If we ALLOW ourselves to be CONNED by their false, unfulfilled promises who is to blame
You may wish to remember that people paid to be ordinary party members during the 1st and 2nd Republic politics. Today we expect the politician and/or his godfather to spend for the campaign and still work for us- are we THIEVES who reap where we have not sown

This is a sad news for Nigeria. It is still one of the viable economies in Africa though. The government needs to take this indication and us it to make changes. This is what is annoying about that country. Nobody is willing to do something than complain of blackmailing or oppression. People just seat there and make noise. cry cry cry cry

The bulk of the problem that contributed to Nigeria's economic competitiveness is insecurity. The war against Boko Haram is affecting the country's ability to invest in critical sectors of the economy. Huge sums of monies are spend on defense. Take a look at our National budget and you will see that security and defense budget outweighs other sectors no thanks to Boko Haram. Hope is not lost however. Nigeria shall surely win the battle against terrorism.

I quite agree with you on the security issue but it is not the only thing mentioned in the ranking. In fact, the bulk of the problems has been placed on poor development(physical and human). There is lot missing in that area. I have always pointed out there is need for massive infrastructure provision in all sectors of the society.

Talking about budget, the government hasn't done enough to secure the loopholes in the revenue collection. There is no proper taxation in the country. That goes a long way to prove that they just seat there and wait to make noise while nothing is done to collect tax from citizens and use it for what it's meant for. Nigeria is not organized. That makes it difficult to run things effectively and realize most objectives which could help us to avoid those troubles.

There is need for change. That has to come with getting organized. When that is addressed building a better and working institutions becomes easy. I have always talked about getting organized in this forum.

The country is infrastructurally-challenged. Travel by road, you cannot drive up to 100km without potholes, diversion or moving from a dual carriage way to a single lane. We are unable to maintain roads built in 70s and 80s and 90s not to talk about new ones even though our population has doubled. How can Pakistan with similar demography and political system have about 300k km of paved road while Naija has less than 100k km? How can we spend N7 out of every N10 we make on salaries and political appointees? We invest N3 out of every N10 on capital projects. The reverse should be the case if we want to grow.

True. Nigeria has a long way to go in terms of human and physical development. Lack of reliable data has not even helped matters. The poor nature of taxation is another issue entirely. Though there have been moves lately to reform the country's taxation policy by the FRIS.
I completely agree with you on the case of organization. We Nigerians are not organized at all. We always act like rascals.

… Now 127th in the world

Despite Nigeria’s current status as Africa’s largest economy, the country slumped in the global competitiveness ranking released on Tuesday.

Africa’s biggest oil producer fell by seven places to 127th position.

According to the 2014-15 Global Competitiveness Report, infrastructure (human and physical) continues to be Nigeria’s toughest challenges.

The report attributed the decline in Nigeria’s global competitiveness “to weakness in public finances (as a result of lower oil exports), continuing institutional frailty and deterioration in national security.”

The outcome, the report said “are similarly mixed for other middle-income countries in the region.

Lesotho (107th) and Cape Verde (114th) registered the largest improvements, while Botswana (74th), Namibia (88th), Zambia (96th), Ghana (111th), Senegal (112th) and Swaziland (123rd) are relatively stable.

Among the oil-exporting economies, Gabon is the highest-ranked economy (106th) followed by Cameroon (116th), Nigeria, Angola (140th) and Chad (143rd).

Among Africa’s low-income economies, Ethiopia recorded the biggest leap, rising nine places to 118th.

The report stated that only three sub-Saharan countries – Mauritius (39th); South Africa (56th) and Rwanda (62nd) are in the top half of the world’s most competitive economies.
