I am not a student of the aforementioned school
but i have lots of friends there. Based on what they
usually say, every lecturer in the school has a text
book to his name. they (the lecturers) make the
purchase of their textbooks mandatory. students
who fail to purchase these books, as a
consequence, are indicted by way of making them
carry the course to which the text book is related
over. In a semester, a student ends up buying
textbooks that atleast match up to the number of
courses he or she is offering. This is worrisome
due to the reasons given below:
1. Mediocre texts: Most of the books written by
these lecturers aren't just good enough because
they are not anywhere close to standard. i can
attest to this because i have read lots of them.The
reason for the books not being up to standard is
not far fetched; these lecturers don't write these
texts to contribute their quota to the body of
knowledge. They just deploy these books as
means to extort money from their rather helpless/
voiceless students. these are books that would
likely sit on the shelf for ages in a normal
bookshop due to their mediocrity and lack of good
content. Most of them just quote other authors and
hardly make any sentence of their own. to do
small research na wahala.
2. The students don't read: To ensure they punish
those that do not buy their texts, they often give
assignments that are submitted alongside the
books bought with every students' name written on
his or her own clearly.

3. prostitution: female students resort to prostitution to raise money for the books.

my questions are: are the authorities not aware of this? how can we curb this extorticism?
