2014 Afcon Qualifying Preview:Journey To Morocco! by teniola55(m): 9:00am On Sep 05, 2014
Seven teams emerged from the second round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to join the 21 best ranked teams that will be competing at this stage in seven groups.
The winners and runners-up of each group, plus the best third-placed team will qualify for the finals, to be held in Morocco from January 17 to February 8, 2015 .

Guinea – Togo | Friday, September 5
Relocated from Conakry to Casablanca in Morocco due to the threat of the Ebola disease, Guinea, who are playing hosts, will endeavour to kick off their campaign on a positive note in a bid to smooth their path to the finals having failed to appear at the 2013 edition. And with the return of Emmanuel Adebayor and goalkeeper Kossi Agassa, Togo new coach Tchanilé Tchakala is confident the Sparrow Hawks will take three points from their North African trip ahead of the second match day.

Senegal – Egypt, | Friday, September 5
Senegal will be playing at their home stadium of Leopold Sedar Senghor in Dakar for the first time in more than a year following the 2012 ban on the facility due to match incidents. Organisers are working to mobilise a huge number of fans to support the Teranga Lions against Egypt. Neither team made it to the previous Afcon edition in South Africa, while Tunisia, the third challenger of their Group G, will strive to fight off competition from both to claim one of the group’s two berths.

Ethiopia – Algeria | Saturday, September 6
Fresh from a commendable 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Algeria, who are also Africa’s number one team as per Fifa rankings, would be keen on confirming their current status, against Ethiopia away. The Fennec Foxes new coach Christian Gourcuff says he wants to record a flawless run to the end of the campaign by winning all six games. However, Ethiopia’s performances at the 2013 Afcon and the 2014 World Cup qualifiers are enough proof that they are capable of engaging and stunning the North Africans.

Mali – Malawi | Saturday, September 6
Mali are highly favoured over Malawi in their clash set for Bamako where the Eagles have recorded several victories over their adversaries in recent times. Bearing in mind that their next game will be a trip to Algeria, the Malians will shoot for a convincing win over the Flames in order to cushion their eventual position in the group ahead of the next match day.

Burkina Faso – Lesotho | Saturday, September 6
Burkina Faso, the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finalists, have made little changes to the outfit since their South African adventure. Coach Paul Put is still in command and has made his ambition very clear, “winning all home matches and never losing away fixtures”. Lesotho have never qualified to the finals but displayed their improvement in the second round by knocking out highly favoured Kenya on a 1-0 aggregate, which insiders say has brought much confidence to the team. Facing the Stallions in Ouagadougou will likely show how well the Flames have improved.

Gabon – Angola | Saturday, September 6
Gabon have been struggling to return to the continental scene after co-hosting the tournament in 2012. They have changed coach three times since then with nothing to show for it, not even qualification to the 2013 edition. However, the team remains ambitious and wants to book their place at Morocco 2015 but opening against a side as strong as Angola will tell how truly prepared the Panthers are for the qualifying campaign.

DR Congo – Cameroon | Saturday, September 6
Both teams are regional archrivals and they share Group D with another tough side, Cote D’Ivoire. DR Congo and Cameroon meetings have always been crackers, but the Indomitable Lions will be looking to take sweet revenge on the Leopards for stopping them from reaching the 2014 African Nations Championship (Chan), which ended as a 2-1 aggregate win in favour of the Congolese. Both sides will be seeking for a win ahead of an ultimate clash with the Elephants.

Zambia – Mozambique | Saturday, September 6
Zambia seem fortunate to receive arguably one of the easier groups of the competition. The Chipolopolo will open against Mozambique at home which local pundits predict will go the Zambians way, before subsequently facing Niger and Cape Verde. However, such predictions might be tricky because Mozambique out-performed Tanzania in the second round, while Cape Verde have grown to become a formidable outfit on the continent, as Niger’s consecutive appearances at the Afcon finals off late have given them adequate exposure.

Niger – Cape Verde | Saturday, September 6
The above match appears to be quite a balanced challenge. Both teams are the rising football nations in West Africa, with strong ambitions to maintain their presence at the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. Cape Verde possess a more technical and talented group but Niger can fight until the final whistle, leaving the confrontation up for grabs.

Weldone for the preview! Interest fixtures and groups. I see Egypt's group as the toughest, that is if the teranga lions still have tooth to bite.

Op, u no come put Naija and Ghana own.
