Exposed!!!!!!! Atlast 5 Reasons Anambra State Top The Charts In External Exams by uduokirika1(m): 3:10pm On Sep 05, 2014
Anambra state in the last couple of years had maintained the lead in most external examinations like WAEC, NECO and JAMB, so much has been said to be the driving force to these achievements. However, after witnessing the previous exams and that of this year I deemed it fit to share some of my findings summarized under Five (5) sub topics:

(1) INDIVIDUALISTIC APPROACH Just like every other thing 'HE' does an average Anambrarian believes he/she 'holds the yam and the knife needed for his/her success' as such exams are pursued in the same manner. Those who are intelligent believe in themselves 100% and prepare for it while those that have doubts prepare for option B which is what i call "THE THEORY OF NATURAL ACADEMIC SELECTION" whereby the 'not so sure begins to prepare and separate to find solace/succor in the best obtainable option as such most SS3 classes in Anambra state losses over 50% of its previous (SS2) population status. It is no longer news that students from anambra state migrate in droves to neigbouring state (especially SS states) during external exams simply because of unfavourable environment most especially from Govt & Missionary schools that dominate the state. In other words those left behind simply believe they can make it on their own by shear intelligence or by crook! THEREFORE EVEN BEFORE THE EXAMS START PROPER THE GROUND HAD ALREADY BEEN PREPARED FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST!!!!!!!

(2) CODIFIED EXAM MALPRACTICE
Just like every state in Nigeria the place of malpractice in exams (mostly external) cannot be overemphasized. This however will be broken down into two viz;
a. Chukwuli/mgbo/expo This has to do with the individual, most students that fall into this category often times are very intelligent students (not brilliant) who scheme out various tactical means to outwit the invigilators. This may include the use of fast browsing mobile phones, micro-chips, using empty Biro to draw diagrams on a plane sheet of paper, writing on desks, bribing the invigilator & converting him to be their spy (look-out man), tipping the gate man to inform them if an external invigilator arrives, smuggling of question papers out of the hall for some one to solve and returned via pre-arranged means and so on. With the exception of the mobile phone any average-good student will see those listed as reminders but some dullards even with phones will still fail. Most times this methods are used in schools with zero tolerance on malpractice (missionary schools and most govt schools depending on the principal) success is limited because many would be caught.

b. Miracle/Special/ center and Private schools
Today most tutorial/miracle centers are fast metamorphosing into private schools as such in line with the primary objective of establishment which is to maximize profit your guess is as good as mine, because the more students perform excellently from their schools the more candidates they have in successive years. Here the proprietors go the extra mile to ensuring that invigilators posted to their schools are compromised get the question papers early enough for the brainy teachers to solve and then transferred to the students. the students' speed and accuracy will be the determining factor but some will still fail though very few. And the day an uncompromising invigilator comes 'OYO' for all the students.

(3) INFORMATION DIFFUSION & INTERSTATE EXPOSURE
It still remain an undeniable fact that most of Anambra population are in the rural and sub-urban centers but the surprising fact still remains that an average Anambra 'rural-student' is far ahead to his counterparts in other states. Information they say is key to knowledge and also experience they say is the best teacher. Now in practical terms hardly would you see an Anambra rural-student who has not traveled out of the state for one or two visits during holidays (especially long vacations/August break) this is possible because in every extended family include members living in different parts of the country, the children of those living in the village avail themselves the opportunity to visit these numerous aunties and uncles at various probable times. Now the EXPERIENCIES garnered during these trips becomes academically indispensable. Some NLders may argue against this, but it plays a very crucial role though not highly visible but highly inevitable.

(4) STATE GOVT POLICY
The govt under Peter Obi had done very well in touching grass root education, aside improvement on physical infrastructure and equipment, had encouraged community/church partnership in the educational sector. This have brought back trust on govt owned institutions. Also the final hand over of some schools to missionaries will definitely sustain the tempo.

(5) MISSIONARY AND COMMUNITY INFLUENCE
This is one aspect that have played significant role in covering up government lapses over the years. Communities in anambra state most times don't wait for govt to do the needful before they embark to tackling the problem, which is why almost all communities have sec. schs many of these where built by the communities before handing them to the govt. Also the missionaries on their part have continued to expand their educational frontiers with strict moral guidance. As such these two have helped immensely to bridging the gap thereby making schools to be easily accessible and affordable to students.

In conclusion, the summary above throws more insight basically on how Anambra State had combined all the aforementioned parameters to maintain a sustainable lead. Please exclusively my objective observations and opinion based on my recent findings.

REASON NUMBER 1 BELOW..

Anambra to close 486 centres of exam magic

on July 22, 2014 / in News 2:28 am / Comments

BY VINCENT UJUMADU

AWKA—NO fewer than 486 centres of examination magic in Anambra State are to be shut down as part of measures to curb examination malpractices in the education sector, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, has said.

Speaking at the 10th anniversary of St. Joseph’s Academic Award for 2014, the commissioner observed that the miracle centres had been aiding and abating examination malpractices, especially during West African School Certificate Examinations, WASC, and National Examination Council, NECO, examinations.

According to her, the decision to shut down the magic centres became necessary due to the manner their operators have fashioned them to swindle unsuspecting, desperate candidates.
She said: “We have govern-ment and approved private schools that are saddled with the responsibility of training our children to become functional members of our society.”

Can we stop this already. Its becoming a cliche.

Anambra state is just like every other state in the country where success in an external exam is a function how smart you could get as regards malpractices. Just as rightly stated above. Sometimes, i just keep quiet watching dudes bragging about how so so state had best WAEC result for a particular year. I have pictures i took while i went for an invigilation in some schools while in Anambra. These students were carrying textbooks with confidence i had never seen before. The halls were always rowdy. The truth is, the prevalence of corrupt practices in every edges of this country can't make us have a real fact/figure on several important things such as academic performance in external examinations.
Almost every schools, most especially public schs you go to in this country during examination, you would see different levels of examination malpractices.

Instead of seeking ways to fix the carnivorous public education system in your state, you are looking for ways to bring down Anambra. undecided

Kindly state the year Anambra or Imo didn't come 1st and 2nd.
The IQ of an average Anambra person is way higher than most other states especially states outside the South East.

Dis mumu op & those who think malpractice is d chief reason are too dumb.Dey only think location in anambra is d main reason, whereas d pple wt their intellect is d main factor.Agreed, malpractice happens in many states;but what d lazy op failed to do is to find out(surprisingly enough)dat d majority of d anambra indigenes wt these year in year out best results did not even sit for their exams in anambra state, but in other states;so how do u explain dat.
Op,how do u also explain d fact that anambra, imo, delta continuously lead d charts in other exams like unity sch entrance exams, ume or those exams too were only written in their states of origin?

The state with a 65% passing average, should be identifying problems? While the ones with 20% passing average condemn them. Where is the beef here?

Nonsense.
Am not from anambra but this is utter crap.
Last time we checked, SE ranked behind SS and SW in the number of special centers and exam malpractice statistics.
How many times will these be posted before some people get it into their heads.
This is not the first time anambra leads in educational stats, neco is there, the unbiased national cut off mark is there.

And they keep doing it yearly.
How come SW with a higher number of exam centers n malpractice find themselves at the lower rung every year?

at least anambra state is making effort to close illigal weac centers. And it is yielding result for them and that is why they are ahead of of other states while your state government is busy encouraging illegal weac centers and distrubuting opon imo tablet with obsolete subject s that cant be upgraded and foolish people like u sing their praises on nairaland while the educational legacies left behind by papa awo may his soul rest in peace keep sliding behind. Look at those stats u would see that some northern states has over taken some south west states. Keep on praising apc while ur education keep sliding behind

Yorubas are so dumb now...take a trip around lambe here is Ogun State and see that miracle center is the biggest business here next after Okada.

Every electric pole you pass you must see billboards and posters of different lesson centers assuring you of have straight As in one sitting.

Awolowo free education without substance have rendered our Yoruba folks incapacitated in many area, most okadamen here at Ajuwon dont understand pidging English, they cant utter.

Anambra State is home to 7 institutions of higher learning dominted by them and their folks but take a trip to Babcock University roster all the names you will seeing there are mostly igbos names esp those from Abia State.

Abeg Yorubas go and put your house inorder because even the boko haram ravaged North is overtaking you clowns academically.
