My very first encounter with another African, a Nigerian to be precise was at JFK, two days after I got to the U.S. The advise he gave to me was 'stay away from Africans, they bring bad luck, they are spiteful and they want everything but good for you'. I took that advise with a pinch of salt. I was picked up at the airport by one of my best friends, a Nigerian, she opened up her home to me until I was ready to relocate to the hostel on campus. I started to doubt again whether or not to believe what the airport man told me about staying away from other Africans as my best friend narrated to me her odeal with other fellow Africans. She recounted how a fellow Nigerian reported another Nigerian to immigration, writing formal grievances at work and would rather patronize an indian man's business. Even though I still cherish the relationship I have with other Aficans in Diaspora, I always tend to watch my back a lot in order not to get stabbed.

I don't know about all that but of this I know.

Other ethnic groups here collaborate and they push each other along but not Nigerians.

The thing though is even though I've been in the US since 1986, I have only 2 Nigerian friends who I will say are win my inner circle.

It depends on who you meet.
