The manpopwer required to fly these birds are short in supply, so in the event of a capture by BH, it is as good as a shade for reasting. Secondly, i am sure it could be programmed to self destruct in the event of a capture.

This is just absolutely shameful, and when you start telling them the truth, by critiquing based on the truth - the rabid attack dogs will start saying you hate the country.

Nigeria has been using Mi-35 for more than 7 years now. And it's an old attack helicopter. If you're going to modernise the Nigerian military, why not go for the Mil Mi-28, which is a better, and an all purpose one? Little countries like: Kenya, Angola, and Algeria have it. So, what's stopping Nigeria from doing the same? Also, for Boko Haram, it will be more effective than the Mi-35M.

And if they want to go for the kill, they should've gone for the KA-50.

These folks are just too corrupt.

Dude, STFU when those who're conversant with the military are talking.

Mi-28 started in 2009, and it's the most modern attack helicopter in the Russian inventory, apart from the ka-50. And it's comparable to the American Apache. Heck, Kenya has at least 16. And Algeria has close to 30.

I honestly don't know why you lot love spouting nonsense everywhere.

The Mi-28 combat helicopter has been developed by Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant and is known by the NATO codename Havoc. In August 1996 Mil rolled out a prototype of the day and night capable version, the Mi-28N Night Havoc. The first production Mi-28N took its first flight in April 2004 and began flight testing with the Russian Air Force in June 2005.

The Russian Air Force has plans to procure up to 60 of this variant, now called the Mi-28NE Night Hunter.

"The Mi-28 can be armed with a mixture of air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, unguided rockets, and podded guns. "Three were ordered in 2005 and 16 more in 2006 for delivery by 2008. The first production aircraft was delivered in May 2006 and began formal acceptance testing in September 2006. Five aircraft are involved in the testing which is scheduled to conclude in early 2008.

Mi-28 can fly at a maximum speed of 300km/h, can fly rearwards and sideways at speeds up to 100km/h and is able to hover turn at 45° a second.

The Mi-35M is a multi-role combat helicopter manufactured by Rostvertol,
a subsidiary of Russian Helicopters. It is an export variant of Mi-24 Hind
attack helicopter. Primarily designed for attack and military transport
missions, the helicopter delivers superior flight performance and
manoeuvrability than its predecessor.
The production of Mi-35M started in 2005. The aircraft integrates modern
high-precision weaponry for destroying ground-based armoured targets
and providing air support for ground missions. It can be modified as an
attack, ground assault, medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) or transport
platform.
The Mi-35M is one of the modern combat helicopters in the Russian Air
Force inventory. It is also operated by the armed forces of Venezuela,
Brazil and Azerbaijan.

If you can search, I'm sure you should be able to read and comprehend as well. Now, go back to the article you posted, and read the excerpt in bold.

Basically, if testing was scheduled to conclude in 2008 - then when do you think it was commissioned into service?

Also, go back to your source, and read about Mi-35, and compare the two, to see which one of the two is new, and which is far superior and will be more effective. Then, check the little African countries which have them in service in their military, and the quantities they have.

Then come back to thank me later.

Which one is better Mi35 (upgraded Mi24) that we have the capacity to fly and maintain or to get Ka-50 that we will take us 3years to get used to? Military strategy is all about what will work for you in the interim....while you can improve later. For the fact that we have enough pilots who can fly these attack helicopters...It does not make sense to buy Apache helicopters or Ka-50 that nobody can use.

We should all know that the Nigerian military was no being equipped for years since 1990 by successive governments because of the fear of Coup d'etats .

For the person talking of Boko Haram capture.... forget about movies, if you do not have the technical know-how, you can not lift that "havoc" as NATO calls the mi-28 one inch into the air.

For the difference between Mi-35 and Mi-28, they have almost close military capabilities except for improved avionics and transport for the later (Mi-28NE). The good news about it is that these Mi-35 attack helicopter can be upgraded with some of these improved avionics if one desires.

Finally, the military does not think the way we do...like our politicians buying new state of the art taxis and buses for "cities" with no roads. It is like using the latest Iphone/Ipad in Nigeria. How many of the features are available in Nigeria?

Let us support our military in the fight against Boko haram!
