On January 22nd, 2008, W3C published the latest working draft for HTML 5. The HTML 5 working group includes AOL, Apple, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Mozilla, Nokia, Opera, and many hundred other vendors. Some of the new features in HTML 5 are functions for embedding audio, video, graphics, client-side data storage, and interactive documents. HTML 5 also contains new elements like <nav>, <header>, <footer>, and <figure>. HTML 5 improves interoperability and reduces development costs by making precise rules on how to handle all HTML elements, and how to recover from errors. Please, can someone throw more light on the future of HTML 5? |

I personally look forward to it. For one, I am sick and tired of using different syntax for embedding flash when I have to deal with flash movies on a page where I have form fields and the fields bleed thru the movie ![]() Omni, I believe the info you seek is here, just in case you haven't seen it already: http://www.w3.org/html/wg/html5/ Me? I no go send any articles until I see it in action. I have too much in my head as it is ![]() |

Been hearing d gist around bt neva bothered to dig into it. Why should I when it may take long mnths for browsers to implement d specs and longer mnths (even yrs) for it to win d market over version 4. What happens if u design in 5 and majority of ur users still run on 4 (many naija cafes for ex still complacently run on IE 6). Is there anythg like backward compatibility? I doubt! Take CSS 2 as an example. Believe me, many browsers (even ones that claim its implementation) are stil leavg out parts of d specs. Well, lets c wat d future holds sha. |

kehers:You have a good point here. I've been working all night trying to get the best out of this HTML 5. The next thing no is, how many browsers will integrate it and how soon? I hope it will not be a wasted effort anyway. I still think webmasters should still study the references and know them. |

You guys might want to pull up a chair and sit down because it might be a while, with respect to all browsers implementing any spec in its entirety. Believe me, I know - I have been coding since the days of HTML3.2 and when you had to use javascript to sniff various ".x" versions of a browser and had to sniff various OS versions to boot ![]() |

Well, I think it is time to get back to work, trying to know what it has new. Keep coding in the 4.01 then gradually keep including the new specs from 5 to see where it works ad where it doesn't. |
