Oh gush! what are ALL of you talking about Hey dainty, has any of these helped your friend YES? NO?

My mom always wonder why i make "a lot of noise" while i brush and my cousine wonders why my breath never smells bad and my girl friend never stopped approaching me for a kiss (oops!). Anyway, what i'm trying to say is this,

BRUSH THE BACK (OR END) OF YOUR YONGUE AND YOUR BAD BREATH IS GONE FOR GOOD! this is what i do every morning and i am CONSTANTLY smelling my breath to know if its awefull and its only bad when i just get up from bed at mornings!

People brush and floss and everything and still have bad breaths! i read an article that said that bad breath is cause by bactaria that settles and the end/back of your tounge and that's what causes bad breath or mouth odour! so, to rid the bad breath/mouth odour you SCRUB OR BRUSH THE END/BACK of your tongue!!! let your friend try is and if it doesn't work, then i'd be, wrong!?? whatever! that is what i do and i don't have bad breath!

Well, so many responses, but very few hit the nail on the head. I will respond as a doctor in the house.

Source of bad breath in many cases? THE TONGUE! tongue

Great attention must be paid to brushing the tongue with the toothbrush, especially that part of it closest to the throat. This is because most of the bacteria that act on food particles left in the mouth after eating to produce sulphur compounds are located on the tongue. Brushing the tongue to remove the whitish to milkish coating on the tongue (the by-product of this oxidative reaction) will definitely help.

A second option is to increase salivary secretions in the mouth. Saliva is a powerful natural antibacterial agent. It's secretion can be released by chewing SUGAR-FREE chewing gums (Wrigley's for example) or by chewing regular chewing gum long after the sugar in it must have gone.

Try these out and you will see results in the next few days.

Great reply Kheme!

My wife simply cannot stop kissing me and I mean the real French Kiss. I taught her the same tongue brushing principles and it has been a wonderful experience.

TONGUE BRUSHING IS IT!

This site is also dedicated to preventing/curing bad breath : http://www.bad-breath-guide.com

Interestingly the site seems to be against using some mouthwashes.

@Topic
Ur friend needs to see a dentist or sumthin if this breath thing is getting worse.
Or just try brushing and flossing more often.

You guys ever wondered that the scent might be coming from the colon? Brushing the tongue and the teeth, and even flossing are good habits, but if the colon is dirty we might have a problem. Most of the waste reside in the colon, and if our bodies aren't releasing all that waste fast enough, then the gases will rise nothward and channel their way up.

Bobbyaf ~ Don't be surprised that not many people are aware that bad breath could originate internally. As I posted earlier, If there were no gum disease or tooth decay and the bad breath persists, despite all the helpful suggestions, it means it's an internal problem.

Even the dentist can't help because it's no longer a disease of the mouth. The dentist will just refer one to a Specialist in Internal Medicice - Check the throat, the wall lining of the intestine, or the congested colon.

Ebonyjoy hit the nail on the head. As a Dental Hygienist, what she said is exactly what I would recommend.

If you have access to a Hygienist, have a regular (6 monthly) scale (clean) and professional polish of your teeth. When you brush, don't just scrub across, aim the brush slightly upwards towards your gumline. Make sure the bristles of the brush go just slightly under the gumline and wiggle the brush back and forth. Spend about 10 secs on every two teeth and brush twice a day. Nights are extremely mportant because our mouths are drier at night - we lose the buffering effect of saliva therefore more chance of tooth decay & plaque build-up.

Visit http://www.bdha.org.uk/public/index-public.htm,   http://www.bdha.org.uk/public/index-public.htm,   http://www.ada.org/public/topics/bad_breath_faq.asp.

Listerine has a very high alcohol content (links to cancer etc) and is not something I ever recommend. How many of you have tried to hold in your mouths for the recommended 1 min? Didn't you feel like your mouth was on fire? Any Fluoride mouthwash with low or no alcohol should be fine. Also use a Fluoride toothpaste.

P.s just for fun people, if you're truly truly bored, try the lick test - lick the inner side of your wrist, allow it to dry and smell it - this is apparently a good guage of how bad your breath is undecided

Floss your teeth after eating and when brushing, pay particular attention to your tongue, because that is where some of residues resides. Drink lots of water, and avoid mouthwashes that has alcohol content, because it dries the mouth. If all else fails, consult a dentist to remedy the problem.

Re: How To Get Rid Of Bad Breath by Ndipe(m): 12:03pm On Feb 26, 2007
Floss after every meal, or before retiring to bed. That helps a lot. Brush thoroughly, paying attention to gaps and always clean your tongue afterwards. Make sure there is no white residue, because the tongue is also the breeding place of germs.

While mouthwashes are efficient in eliminating, for the most part, bad breath, abstain from one with an alcohol based content, because it dries the mouth. A bi-annual visit to the dentist is equally effective in preventing tooth decay, another source of bad breath.

Eating a balanced diet allows your digestive system to work efficiently. This can greatly reduce the amount of becteria in your body that are responsible for bad breath.
The amount of water in-take is important. This helps to refreshen your breath, therefore you need to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day.

Suppose you conduct a 'breath test' as you make your way to an important meeting, and you fail. Don't worry - the following quick fixes can help to minimize your horrible halitosis. If your gums, tongue, and teeth are harboring odor-causing bacteria, you'll want to adopt some rigorous daily hygiene habits to inhibit them. That's when special rinses, attention to toothpaste and regular brushing and flossing can begin making bad breath good.
Learn the side effects of any medications you may be taking, are they causing your bad breath? If so, you may wish to call your doctor to see if you can switch medications if bad breath is a big issue for you.
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
Follow your diet for a few days. Are you eating a lot of something known for causing bad breath? For example, garlic, onions and some types of fish are known to cause bad breath, and cutting back can help.
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
If you'd like to fix the problem naturally rather than going the usual route, chew - do not swallow - a sprig of parsley or mint, or a fennel seed or two, before and after eating to get rid of post-meal halitosis.
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
If you'd rather go the usual route, gargle with a mouthwash or have a sugar-free mint or stick of gum. Some mints have ingredients designed to absorb, not just mask bad odors. Sugar-free gum generally promotes salivation, which helps rinse away troublesome bacteria. Sugary gums and mints have a sour aftertaste and feed oral bacteria (bad for your teeth and your breath).
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to promote salivation and wash away bacteria without giving the remainder food to grow on. Being well hydrated also thins the mucus secretions in your nose passage, which when thick can harbor bad-smelling bacteria. You can also eat fresh fruit to hydrate your mouth.
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
Purchase and use a tongue scraper and/or vigorously brush your tongue--your teeth are not the only place where odor-causing bacteria form. Make sure to brush the back of your tongue, not just the front.
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
Floss on a regular basis. This is still necessary, even after a toothbrush cleaning.
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
Consider that your bad breath may be stemming from within. While some bad breath is "superficial," (i.e., caused by bacteria in the mouth) it is oftentimes the result of postnasal drip or poor digestion. Your doctor may be able to help with postnasal drip. To alleviate the second type of bad breath, make it a point to eat a serving of "active culture" yogurt every day. The healthy bacteria in the yogurt will aid in digestion, and quickly eliminate any traces of internally generated bad breath.

Bad breath can be due to several reasons. One of the main reason for it is the unhealthy stomach. One of the best thing to control it is the regular intake of water. Try to increase your water drinking capacity. Ensure that you brush daily. Along with it if you think that it is getting worse then my advice would be to get in touch with a dentist as at times due to decay o infection of tooth you have the ad breath problem.
