Members of the Northern Elders Council, which is
sympathetic to the second term ambition of
President Goodluck Jonathan have blasted the
members of the Arewa Consultative Forum for
criticizing the President over the security situation
in the country.
The group, which is being led by Alhaji Tanko
Yakasai said at a press briefing in Abuja on
Monday, that it was wrong for the ACF, which is
chaired by a former Inspector-General of Police,
Alhaji Ibrahim Coomasie to always criticise the
Federal Government.
Yakasai, who spoke on behalf of the group,
alleged that the ACF had been taken over by those
he described as desperate opposition politicians.
He said there had been a change in the activities
of the ACF since Coomasie became its chairman.
Yakasai said, “We wish to observe that since the
emergence of the current leadership of the ACF,
there has been a derailment and non-compliance
with the mission of the founding fathers of the
forum.
“A motley crowd of opposition politicians have
hijacked its machinery. It is becoming more and
more isolationist even within the region.
“This has greatly degraded the ACF.”
Asked if he was speaking on behalf of the
majority of the northern region, he said no, adding
that he was only speaking on behalf members of
the NEC.
He said members of his group regretted the “way
and manner the ACF chairman addressed the
President in his rodent press conference.
“To say that ‘President Jonathan doesn’t like the
north’ is outrageous and uncharitable. And to say
that he has failed, is untrue.”
He said this statement has confirmed the
allegation that the ACF leadership has derailed
from the original aim of those he said established
the forum.
He said Coomasie has also confirmed the
allegations of partisanship and the claim that the
ACF was hob-knobbing with opposition elements
and unrepentant critics of the Jonathan
administration.

ALHAJI Tanko Yakasai, former Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters to former president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, has said there is no need for Government of National Unity (GNU)at the moment because there is no crisis in the country.

Making the call in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Alhaji Yakasai said, “I don’t support President Goodluck Jonathan inviting anybody to form government.”

The elder stateman further stated that, “this is a democracy; the minority would have their say, while the majority would have their way.”

He said that he did not believe in a situation in which, after election, people would be clamouring for government of national unity, submitting that, “you form a government of national unity in a crisis situation.

“Where election is conducted free and fairly, those who were able to win election should be allowed to implement their programme.”

Elder statesman and Political Adviser to ex-President Shehu Shagari in the Second Republic, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has berated former President Olusegun Obasanjo over comments credited to him in Dutse on Democracy Day calling for a change of leadership and describing President Ggoodluck Jonathan’s government as a failure.

Obasanjo who delivered a key-note address during the opening ceremony of the first Jigawa Investment and Economic Summit threw jibes at Jonathan’s administration and made comments suggesting his endorsement of Governor Sule Lamido come 2015 Presidential Election.

The Presidency is angry with Chief Obasanjo not only because he shunned the Democracy Day celebration in Aso Rock and chose to spend the day in Dutse Jigawa state, but because the former President used the occasion to vent his anger on President Jonathan who of late have been keeping arms length from Obasanjo.
