The 2014 African Women's Championship is scheduled to be held in Namibia.[1] This tournament is also a qualification tournament for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, with top three qualifying for the finals in Canada. It will be played on 11–25 October 2014.

The tournament marks the first participation of Namibia in the African championship. Also for the first time the defending champions, Equatorial Guinea, are not taking part after failing to win their last qualifying round match. Namibia were awarded the hosting rights in October 2011. It is the first time they will appear in the final tournament. There has been some criticism of the slow preparation and campaigning for the event. The national women's league will be suspended this year because all money is used for hosting the continental event.

The Super Falcons will not be left out of the tournament after beating Rwanda to qualify. They won the first seven African championships and through 2011 lost only five games to African competition: December 12, 2002 to Ghana in Warri, June 3, 2007 at Algeria, August 12, 2007 to Ghana in an Olympic qualifier, November 25, 2008 at Equatorial Guinea in the semis of the 2008 Women's African Football Championship and May 2011 at Ghana in an All Africa Games qualification match.
