I never said goodbye my Nefertiti. It wasn't the harmattan,I could brave the storm to your father's house. It was the storm that goodbyes stir, those that draw sad mists across faces and weigh hearts with fond yesterdays, with Dawns that break into memories when the sun rises. Remember how you used to nest in the crook of my arm just to draw me into your soul with your liquid coal eyes of an Egyptian goddess, how I used to guide the smile across your face holding your hand in writing class the first time you cried in my arms because I dared laugh at you, how your tender lips pouted and my heart tumbled into the maw of remorse. My Firdausi no greater pull has a planet for its moon than that which I have for you, this is the goodbye I could never bring myself to say, this a keepsake of your memory wedged tight between the teeth of my emotions replaying images of Kangiwa again and again, and again, as you take my breath away. |
