The Belgium international, 22, suffered a head
injury after an awkward clash with the Chile star
after just 10 minutes of the match at Stamford
Bridge.

He played on for 13 minutes but was substituted
midway through the first half, apparently having
suffered a concussion.

The collision was accidental but, with Courtois
reportedly bleeding from the ear, the former
Atletico Madrid man was taken to hospital as a
precautionary measure.

Courtois was replaced by Czech goalkeeper Petr
Cech, who has worn protective headgear for the
past eight years after suffering a fractured skull in
a collision with Reading's Stephen Hunt on
October 14th 2006.
