The Lake Chad Basin Commission Heads of State and Government as well as the representative of the Republic of Benin, on Tuesday in Niamey, Niger Republic, resolved to fight in synergy against the Boko Haram sect wherever it rears its ugly head in the region.

This was one of the resolutions of an Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the LCBC, attended by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The sect had so far killed about 13,000 Nigerians since it started his campaign of violence in Nigeria, especially in the north-eastern part of the country.

The nine-point resolution of the summit was posted on the Twitter handle of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.
Abati said the summit focused on assessment of security situation and common strategy for fighting terrorism.

He said the Heads of State resolved to reinforce operational and intelligence capabilities and coordination of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin.
He added that the Heads of State directed experts to develop as soon as possible a common strategy to fight Boko Haram.

Abati wrote, “The LCBC Heads of State decided to finalise the establishment of the headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force in a secured place by November 20.
“The LCBC Heads of State and Benin decided to deploy and pledged contingents as part of MJTF within national borders by November 1.

“The LCBC Heads of State and Benin Republic reaffirmed their firm commitment to the UN Security Council Resolution 1556(2004).

“The LCBC Heads of State and Benin directed Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence to meet immediately to draft a common resolution to UNSC and AU.

“The LCBC Heads of State and Benin Republic thanked President Issoufou Mahamadou and the people of Niger for hosting the extraordinary LCBC summit.”
