The Arsenal manager had previously said he didn't regret
shoving his Portuguese rival during a 2-0 defeat at
Stamford Bridge last weekend.
But Wenger has now said sorry to Mourinho, albeit while
accusing the Special One of helping to incite the incident.
"I regret every sign of violence and I apologise, but that's
a part of games where everything is manic," the Gunners
boss said.
"It's not a way to behave on a football field and I
shouldn't have reacted like that.
"We have quite a substantial past. Did Mourinho provoke
me? That is how I felt," Wenger told French TV show
Telefoot.
"But I did not enter his technical area."
Immediately after the match, Mourinho insisted Wenger
had come into his area while trying to urge the referee to
show Gary Cahill a red card for a tackle on Alexis
Sanchez.
And the Chelsea boss last night reiterated that he had done
nothing wrong throughout the spat.
"I have no words to explain what everybody saw in those
images," he said.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has
revealed he turned down
Paris St Germain to rejoin
Chelsea at the start of last
season.
The Portuguese boss said
he also had the chance to
move to France in 2011,
but is unlikely to leave Stamford Bridge in the near
future.
"I am now at a club I want to be at. I do not want to
leave so Paris is not an option and I will not get fired
because results are good.
"But football is football. There will come a day when I'm
told: 'Jose, it's over!'
"I understand that. I am a man of football. I will respect
that decision."
Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois has defended the club's
handling of his head injury during the Arsenal game.
The Belgium international was initially cleared to continue
by Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro after a collision with
Alexis Sanchez left him dizzy and bleeding from one ear.
There were claims he should have been replaced
immediately rather than 13 minutes later, but the 22-year-
old told Sky: "The doctor of Chelsea did well, I think.
"She asked me the questions she needed to ask and I
could repeat immediately so I was feeling well and didn't
have to come off.
"I didn't feel I was knocked out but I was hit. I didn't
have a headache or anything, but after a few minutes I felt
worse and worse.
"Then I started to feel a little dizzy and I couldn't see the
ball any more and there was a little blood coming from my
ear. Because I saw trouble, I went off.
"I know you have to be careful, but I was not really
knocked out."
