Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari has explained why he wants to rule Nigeria again.

General Buhari who said though he had ruled the country before under a different system, stressed that his intention to govern again under democratic system was not to impoverish the country.

The former Head of State who recalled that he had contested for the coveted post of the President thrice since the return of Nigeria to democracy, expressed reservation over the unfolding events in the country since 1999 till the present time.

What Nigeria and Nigerians are yearning for presently according to him, was security of lives and property and nothing more.

Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on Monday, when he paid a courtesy call on the Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed to inform him of his presidential ambition on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), the former Head of State said the reason behind his continuous attempt to become the president was not unconnected with the intention of putting the country on better pedestal.

"If someone is really patriotic," according to him," one will not be comfortable with the way the country is being run. Is it the monumental corruption you will talk about or the insecurity all over the country", he queried.

He also expressed disappointment over what Nigeria and Nigerians had been rendered into by the present administration, lamenting that those in the position of authority had seriously betrayed the confidence reposed on them by Nigerians who elected them.

His words:"For some of us who knew how the country used to be before now, we cannot afford to fold our arms and be looking the way the country's hard earned resources were being mismanaged".

On whether Sen Bukola Saraki shelved his ambition to pave way for his emergence, the All Progressives Congress(APC), chieftain told the newsmen that he informed the lawmaker about his ambition, stressing that not that I begged him to step down".

"Senator Saraki is a well experienced person who understands the politics of the country. He is a two term governor, loved by his people", he explained.

The State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed had in his remarks described the former Head of State's ambition as a welcome development, saying that it testified to the fact that there was still hope for Nigeria.

He praised him for deeming it fit to visit the state, explaining that the visit showed that Kwara constituted a determining factor when it comes to Nigeria politics.
