Mutiny: Army Bars Journalists From Soldiers Trial by Nobody: 6:34am On Oct 17, 2014
The Army authorities on Thursday barred journalists from covering the ongoing trial of 59 soldiers for mutiny by the General Court Martial led by Brig. Gen Musa Yusuf.
Proceedings of the court had commenced with the prosecution presenting its second witness for cross examination when journalists were excused out of the trial venue by the Public Relations Officer in charge of the Nigerian Army Headquarters Garrison, Abuja, Col. Aliyu Yusuf.

Yusuf, who met with journalists outside the venue midway into the second day’s proceedings, said the information released during the trial process was pertinent to national security.
The Garrison spokesman, who appealed for understanding on the decision to get the media out of the ongoing trial, said sensitive information was being released on the ongoing counter-terrorism operatiosn in the North East.

According to him, it is against national security and national interest for the revelations in the court concerning an ongoing operation to be reported.
It was stated further that such an action could give intelligence to the enemies of the Nigerian Army and indeed the society and undermine the operation.
He said the media would be contacted if the GCM commenced trial of another set of soldiers, stressing that the charges for the soldiers facing mutiny were already reported.

He said, “Let me make an appeal that we have covered the charges for this trial yesterday; there is nothing new that they would be charged for; if there is another trial we will definitely send for you.
“As it is, the issues being discussed by the witnesses involve an on-going operation. This is not healthy; it is harmful to national security…”
Yusuf called out the media for the meeting midway into the cross examination of the Second-in-Command of the 111 Special Forces Battalion, Capt. Isah Saleh.

Fifty nine soldiers of the battalion are standing trial for criminal conspiracy to commit mutiny and mutiny on Wednesday.
Saleh, who was led in evidence by a prosecution lawyer, Capt. Roseline Agwai, gave detailed accounts of the event of the August 3, 2014 and August 4, 2014, at Muleh Seconday Primary School, Maiduguri, the location of the crime.

Pls the Nigerian military must never bow to the myopic sense of reasoning of our media and oposition.

What is wrong with these media men, don't they understand that the role of the military is different.

The military is a set of men and women trained to killour enemies-their mindset and type of work is different. In every nation of the world the military will only release information that willl not be inimical to National security and stability.

It is imperative that we don't share information out carelessly at these critical hour, especially when we know that the enemy has sympathizers among members of the public.

You never hear in any Nation such harrassment by the media, why are Nigerian media men so hungry?

your brain has gone to the goats!!!

Trials in military are nobody's business because a lot of politics go on there!

The soldiers won't be killed, they will be redeployed and if possible, given a new identity/ be dismissed secretly!

They dnt need no media to cover that!
