Shettima: ‘No comment for now’
By Henry Umoru, NDAHI MARAMA
ABUJA- FORMER Inspector- General of Police and Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomasie, IGP, rtd said yesterday that for the Federal government and members of the Boko Haram sect to have a genuine ceasefire, there must be the involvement of a neutral and international body.
Speaking with Vanguard yesterday, Coomasie who served on the just concluded National Conference was however sceptical of the ceasefire, just as he asked of the persons involved in the process, adding that the insurgency has gone out of hand, which would need a genuine and sincere handling.
He said, “the issue of Boko Haram has gone out of hand, when it started, we asked for amnesty, nothing happened, what are the terms of reference for the ceasefire, who are those persons involved, who is brokering the peace, is it an international body, are we talking to the right people? We have lost many lives. If there must be ceasefire, we need an international body that must be neutral.”
Also Governor Kashim Shettima whose State, Borno has been at the centre of Boko Haram attacks since 2009, said he has no comment for now over the reports, noting that he would speak at an appropriate time.
Media associate to the Governor, Isa Gusau who spoke on the Governor’s behalf yesterday said, “hundreds of journalists, local and International have been making inquiries following widely circulated reports about a cease fire over Boko Haram attacks.
“Governor Kashim Shettima has no comment for now regarding the issue. He would make comments at an appropriate time. Governor Shettima has always believed in tripartite approach that involves dialogue for peaceful resolution, military and economic strategies in addressing the Boko Haram problems and he has been a strong advocate of this measure through his practical efforts, sustained public appeals at various fora, which was why he firmly supported the efforts initiated by the President, Goodluck Jonathan through the setting up of the Tanimu Turaki led committee on dialogue and peaceful resolution of security challenges, in 2013 which worked actively and remained in force.
“Governor Shettima is permanently committed to all genuine efforts that would bring the insurgency to an end especially given the fact that Borno State and its people have remained the worse hit bu the unfortunate killings and destructions since 2009″. Gusau stated

The terms of this cease fire is what will determine if it will be praised or condemned. What are the Federal Govt's concessions? What if they will part with millions of dollars,or releasing their leaders in prison? Then we are in trouble cos the temporal cease fire will cause a worse escalation in the future
