Jonathan Commissions N4.4bn Edo/Delta Link Bridge by Nobody: 11:11am On Oct 19, 2014

Victor Efeizomor in Asaba

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Friday commissioned the Asaba-Ebu-Otor road linking Delta and Edo States, with a promise to dualise the road to enhance the economic value to the people of the states .

Jonathan said the bridge was built at a cost of N4.4 billion by an indigenous company, Inter Bau Construction, adding that the successful completion of the bridge was a testimony of the benefits of the Transformational Agenda of his administration.

Represented by Vice- President Namadi Sambo, Jonathan said that the federal government was determined to upgrade the infrastructural base of the country, adding that the government decided to change the policy of arterial roads in 2012 and that resulted in the completion of the bridge in a record time.

According to him, “It is gratifying to note that the completed bridge is already impacting on the lives of the people in terms of enhancing for farmers and better social integration between the communities on both sides of the bridge. I am pleased to inform you that we have directed the Minister of Works to commence the design and dualisation of the road.”

The President said that the federal government would continue to partner with the private sector in the road sector as it occupied a strategic place.

Earlier, the Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen in his speech said that the completed bridge was part of the road which runs from Asaba to Illah, Ebu to Illushi, Ubiaja, Uromi and Irrua in Edo State.

Tracing the history of the bridge to the 19th century when the British built the first wooden bridge across the Otor River which later collapsed, Onolememen said that the modern bridge started in 2005 when the ex-Minster of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe approved the project.

He said that when the initial contract for the 400 metre long bridge which consists of a 10 kilometer access road which was initially valued at N2.9 billion was awarded in 2006, it was supposed to have been completed in 2008 but was later shifted to 2009.

He said that due to the federal government policy at that time, it was transferred over to the Delta State government which declined to take over on the ground that it is an interstate project which traversed Edo and Delta States but was again taken over by the federal government in 2011 due to a series of agitation by Edo and Delta communities.

He added: “The Contract was awarded t the same contractor, Messrs Inter Bau Construction at a revised of N4.4 billion. Work commenced in December 2012 and has now been completed. The project has provided a shorter link between the South East and Abuja with an appreciable travel reduction time of two hours.”

Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan used the occasion to plead that the weight of vehicles plying the road should be regulated so as to avoid the wear and tear of the road.
Uduaghan said that the governments of Edo and Delta states agitated for the transfer of the bridge to the federal government when it was handed over to them because of the funding which the two governments could not afford but was glad that it had finally been completed by the federal government.

That is bullshit! Buhari did even much better as PTDF chairman! Corruption is killing Nigeria, the country is bleeding from every part of its body because Jonagoat Daftluck is the personification of corruption and protector of corruption and corrupt people. If Nigeria does not stop corruption immediately, this country will be worse than Ghana and a terrible joke in the comity of nations.

Jonathan commissions Phase I Benin-Ore Road
on september 29, 2014 at 12:48 am

By Gabriel Enogholase
BENIN—President Goodluck Jonathan, weekend in Benin, Edo State, commissioned the Phase I of the Benin-Ofusu-Ore Road, with a promise to ensure that the next phase to Lagos was completed soon.

“We have intervened in a number of highways and we must fix the roads. We are committed. We must return our roads to class A roads across the country,” he said.

He promised that his administration was also focussing on rail and aviation, adding that the Federal Government decided to set up a Maritime University to train Nigerians in that sector.

On his part, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, described the Federal Government’s effort in reconstructing the road as “the most outstanding intervention the road has witnessed over the years.

“What we are seeing is the outcome of a meticulous design and the appointment of a competent contractor,” Oshiomhole said, describing the Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, as an architect that not only designs but one that translates his designs into reality.

He said that the road was central to the economic life of the people of Edo and the entire South-South, adding that it would attract investment to the state.
“In Edo, the people belong to a bigger party, the Federal Republic of Nigeria party. This is why you will see people decamping from left to right, right to left but no one can decamp from the Federal Republic of Nigeria. That’s what unites us,” he said.

Earlier, the Minister of Works, Onolememen, said that the Phase I of the project was 75 km long and that Phase II suffered a setback because of funding and technical challenges.
He said the project has, however, recorded over 60 percent completion, adding that 61 other roads have been completed across the country.

A bridge that even Governor Amosun commissions on a weekly basis?

Something is really wrong with our mentality when a President shamelessly engages in this show of foolishness.

The other day, it was the President commissioning a private secondary school meant for 50 student for one of his thieves.

It is a 400 metres bridge with 10 km access road. It is a bridge that is already serving its purpose of providing a shorter link between the South East and Abuja and reducing travel travel time by two hours.
Meanwhile, kindly tell us how much it cost to construct a km of road in APC controlled states. Has it been reviewed downwards from N1 billion?

He commissioned a BRIDGE which was 400 meters in stretch. That is 0.4km for 4.4 Billion Naira! We have already seen pictures of the bridge here. Or do you have contrasting picture to show us?

Are you so corrupt in your reasoning not to know that in no sane society or even a Local Government project would a 400 meters bridge cost 4.4 billion naira?!?

You are celebrating mediocrity and corruption!

Am very mch disappointed in u. Can't u appreciate gud tin for once. Must u always hate. If u don't understand Economics, then shut up your month. The fact that u don't support PDP doesn't mean you shuld kip lying to urself. I have my reservations for APC, but that doesn't prevent me from worshipping Fash, Oshiobaba, Rochas (2 an extent), MyKwankwaso, nd even the old fanatic (2 an extent). It doesn't also prevent me from believing that my PDP governor (t.a orji) is a bastard, that deserves jail sentence. Am not a Pro-PDP, but only a believer in a better Nigeria, as articulated in the TAN road map, being executed by d descendent of heaven, GEJ.

Sincere Dolt, did you fail to read this from the news report you quoted, or you just look for news to troll this site with? :

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Friday commissioned the Asaba-Ebu-Otor road linking Delta and Edo States,

A BRIDGE was commissioned not the lie you want to spin to us here!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now let us assume a 10km road was added, did you fail to read that the government promised for a dualisation of the said road? Should we assume this singular bridge lead to the dualisation of the promised road? How much cost and outright corruption is that? Are you this outrightly stewpeed?! undecided

For guys like you with of abysmal IQ, the above quote implies the 10 km access road is part of the contract. Even part of the access road was shown in the pictures posted by your fellow Tinubu attack dog. Who even builds a bridge without an access road? How do you access the bridge if there is no access road?
