Does spanking a child amount to abuse? The phrase “spare the rod, spoil the child” in this modern age is open to debate. The act of spanking a child as a disciplinary measure is open to various interpretations as many see it as a form of physical discipline. Members of the online forum, nairaland.com, make a distinction between spanking as a form of discipline and child abuse. Damalex: Some children will only change for good when you instil discipline in them through beating. It’s always good to beat children because it helps give them the fear that if they do something wrong their mums or dads will beat them. But in a situation where the child knows that it’ll result to only scolding, the child will be willing to do that wrong thing over and over again. Woodcrest Mayor: Sitting a child down and discussing with him or her with a view to effecting a change should be employed rather than frequent beating. A line should be drawn between hate and discipline. You know within you when you are beating for discipline or otherwise. Beating isn’t everything though. Make sure you are firm and uncompromising in any disciplinary action you decide to take. Mhoyo: There are different kinds of children. As a parent or guardian you need to study your child and know the mode of discipline that he or she adheres to the most. Some children do not like to be beaten, but the moment you counsel them, they listen and change their ways. Some listen more to instructions through punishment, while some are through beating. All these are various forms of discipline and parents should employ one or a combination of these. Joseph: The severity of the misdemeanour should determine the kind of punishment the child attracts. Let’s face the truth, kids nowadays are too smart and just too bold to be left unchecked all in the name of pampering. I’ve never been a believer of pampering a child. In fact, I am a supporter of flogging. These kids nowadays will willingly disobey their parents just to see what they’ll do. - nairaland.com http://www.punchng.com/i-punch/buzz-social-media-diary-147/ |

This is wonderful. Welcome development. I still believe we can be heard more better than this. We can join hands and sponsor our opinions concerning issues on national dailies which would represent the opinion of the masses. We can really speak with one voice and change things for good in this country. God bless Nigeria. Yes! Samuelson is trusted. New in the industry. I beg for your support too. MTN only for now. |
