Rivers Mega Rally To Mark Gov Amaechi 7yrs In Office by Spiff20(m): 10:04am On Oct 25, 2014 |
Today, Saturday October 25, 2014 will mark another milestone in the annals of Rivers State. A mega rally will be held at the new Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Stadium, Igwuruta-Ali, in the Greater Port Harcourt City area of Rivers State. According to the State government, the rally would be used to celebrate the 7th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court judgement that brought, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to office. The occasion will also mark the accountability forum of the State government. To this end, some very prominent citizens of Nigeria have been invited to grace the occasion that is estimated to host about 69 thousand persons. Among the special invitees are the former Head of State, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar among others. The Tide is proud to associate with the successes of the Governor of Rivers State, Rt Hon. Chibuke Rotimi Amaechi on this epoch occasion and to congratulate him and his team for the landmark developmental projects, recorded for the good people of Rivers State under his watch. We also make haste to welcome the august visitors and worthy friends of Rivers State for coming to add colour to our celebration. Indeed, it is another occasion that should interest every well meaning member of Rivers State and lovers of democracy in Nigeria. For one, the occasion will afford the government the opportunity to give account of its stewardship to the nation and the people the opportunity to ask questions, make observations and generally celebrate the many things that have become possible for the average Rivers man and woman. Perhaps also worthy of note is the use of the Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in this magnitude for the first time. It actually signifies the level of commitment and progress being recorded under the Greater Port Harcourt City programme that is expected to change the face of Port Harcourt. With barely months to the end of his administration, it is only necessary that the government comes clean before the people, not only because of the need for accountability, but also for the facts and reasons that will be needed to guide the elections of 2015 in Rivers State. This occasion being one planned to celebrate the judiciary in Nigeria should be an encouragement for the rule of law, assurance of justice that should create for Nigeria an egalitarian society and equity. Being the clearing house of human conflicts, the judiciary should be dependable at all time and committed to the development of democratic and acceptable values of society. For sometime now, the judiciary has made some landmark achievements for which they must be commended, but every Nigerian knows that a lot more could have been achieved. Yes, justice was served in the political challenge of Rivers, Anambra and Edo states, the same cannot be said by the everyday litigant. Even as it may be easy to accuse the judiciary, of some slips, the governments and people have also not made the best use of the judiciary. Even as we may assume that the judiciary is working, a lot of persons still wonder why Nigeria is enmeshed in so many meaningless conflicts. Could it be that the people are not convinced of the independence of the judiciary. Even as we celebrate the judiciary because of some good it has brought to the political landscape, the political class cannot also say in all sincerity that they have helped the course of the judiciary and justice in Nigeria. Since the judiciary was able to make possible the political justice in Rivers and some other States, the political class should be bold enough to take to the judiciary the many simmering conflicts, some of which may impact the 2015 general elections negatively. Perhaps, this is an auspicious opportunity to appeal to all stakeholders and parties in the crisis that had kept the Rivers judiciary under lock and keys. If the legal solution fails, the political solution cannot fail in a matter that has far reaching socio-political consequence. The leaders of the day both political and judicial must meet themselves mid-way and allow for civil modes of conflict resolution rather than the self help that can be detrimental. On the other hand, the mega rally should not be seen as the activity of a particular political party, but a programme by the Rivers State Government to interface with the people. The government has by this rally shown the willingness and courage to shed light on all the misgivings that have tended to characterise the relations with some people in government, and the people cannot afford to stay away. Once again, we congratulate the Rivers State Governor for an impactful seven years and the opportunity for the people to participate in governance and to open the way to suggestions that would provide the icing on a wonderful season of development, peace and international reckoning of Rivers State. source:www.thetidenewsonline |

A Yoruba boy who was dating an igbo girl whose name was Njideka asked her to lie to his mum when he takes her home, that her name was Bisi. He told her that, his mum had a phobia for non-Yoruba people and would never accept her once she knows her name was an Igbo girl. She did as he instructed. On sighting her son's fiance, she asked for her name and she said 'Bisi' but not without her characteristic thick igbo accent. The boy's tribalistic mum was so happy that her son was getting married to a Yoruba girl. Ignoring the igbo tone, she said: 'what a lovely name, your boyfriend's elder brother too is Adebisi, his Dad is Olabisi and my best friend's name is Omobisi, which of the Bisi is yours?' Njideka was confused and she replied Ndubisi...the woman SHOUTED MOO GBE OOOOO 2 Likes |

Devoid of any partisan or ethnic bias, I think Amaechi has a great personality. He's shown countless times that he's no pushover, that he's got a mind of his own and he's VERY OUTSPOKEN...which ,perhaps, is his greatest political undoing, in retrospect. But I think he's a PILOT in a SHIP or a SAILOR in an AEROPLANE - right man but the wrong place. Rivers State is a PDP state, make no mistake about that. To the average Rivers or Bayelsa man (or woman), GEJ represents their claim to power and their better interest, at the national level. He might be wrong and Amaechi right but their overall interest at the national level is what really matter. The average Rivers man sees APC as a threat to their 'kinsman' GEJ and hence they'll always vehemently repel any seeming moves the party (APC) and Amaechi , by inclusion, might make to thwart GEJ's claim to power. If Amaechi had cross-carpeted to LP, APGA or HP (who aren't threats to GEJ at the national level) as against APC (who are seen solely as anti-GEJ ) trust me, he would still have had Rivers State in his palms. Rivers politics has always been mostly sentimental, its not going change for Amaechi...At least, not until GEJ leaves Aso Rock, not until then. 1 Like |

Wait I tot Amaechi is a bastard in rivers and has no fellowship in Rivers State at all. This crowd is quite a far cry from the news about amaechi/apc not welcomed in rivers. 2015 go do some people like magic. Seeing GMB,Atiku, kwankwaso, ndanusa all in one gathering shows the maturity and kind of big family the APC is. 1 Like |

Am so surprise to see such crowd in a State like Rivers state, because we were made to believe that APC has not stake in the state. With what is on ground now, I think PDP should be saying their last goodbye. Sai Buhari 5 Likes 1 Share |

Majority of the crowd there are PDP members only there to collect the "thank you for coming" cash that will be distributed. Don't be deceived, APC has no foundation in Rivers State, but I insist that if PDP decides to field another Ikwerre man as governor in 2015, then Amaechi and the APC will win convincingly! GEJ remains my Mentor! |

According to him, the first refinery was Tafawa Balewa, then Nafcon, Eleme, Lng, everything in effect and ALL done by Hausa Moslems. Finished by asking what "their so called brother" had done. When he didn't get any responses, he asked for "half" Amaechi is a crazy guy and I absolutely frigging love him. Wish APC would put him up against Jonathan 2 Likes |

Can anyone summarise or just say one thing Amaechi said during his own presentation at the rally? Nothing! He was so obsessed with his hatred for Mr President in all his remarks that he even forgot to acknowledge his guests. Jonathan bla bla bla.... even Buhari had to cover his face. Any same man will expect the governor to display more decorum in a gathering like this, but hell no, not for an Amaechi 1 Like |

Guys.....Lets us all remeber when late Marshal harry defected to ANPP, and Buhari came for a rally in Port Harcourt, he saw a mammoth crowd and he believed he was going to win river state, but he recieved a shocker by a landslide victory for obasanjo. lets get this rally straight, Ameachi knows tha from his village (which is like 3km from the stadium) to government house and the streams and rivers of rivers state, its a foundational PDP block. How on earth will a rivers man vote against a bayelsa man....its not and never possible despite all the intense rhetorics. Its amaechi's time to rant, but let him remain in the state after he hands over. For those threatening that PDP will loose election if they field Wike, lets do the calculation. Ikwerre people own over 45% voting strenght of the rivers vote. Some of them are not routing for wike cos they believe that an Ogoni man should take the governorship based an unwritten agreement between ObiWali and Saro Wiwa. Amaechi also believes in that. But if wike flies the pdp flag, there will be a lot of shift in position of most ikwerre people to the favour of wike. There are lots of sentiment going on but it will be unfair for an ikwerre man to be governor again being the majority. There are lots going on and between now the 2015 election, there will be a lot of compromises. For sure GEJ will floor Buhari/Atiku in rivers state come 2015....landslide. |
