This write up has divided the body types into 5. Examine yourself and know which body type you are so you can dress accordingly.




HOURGLASS BODY TYPE


An hourglass body type is considered the 'ideal'. Why? Because an hourglass shape distributes weight equally between the upper and lower trunk of the body with a well defined waist at its center. The bust and waist are the same size




WHAT TO WEAR

-High waist skirt
-Sheath dresses
-V neck tops
-slim fit pants
-short shaped jackets
-wrap blouse or dress
-waist belt ( wide belts may shorten the torso if you have a short waist or petite height)
-silk and sertain material
-the right bra: this will help you lift and tame your bust, giving your upper half the right proportions. See how to pick the right bra here
Everything from your casual t-shirts to your button-down blouses should be fitted, nipping in slightly at the waist.


TRIANGLE BODY TYPE


This is when your hip is wider and disproportionate to your bustline with a defined waistline. Its is also known as the pear shape. Many pear shapes also have a small bust and narrow shoulders. The goal of dressing this shape is to get a triangle to look like an hourglass and how do you do this?
... By redirecting visual attention away from your hips to your upper body to create a balance.





WHAT TO WEAR
-boat neck line or scoop neckline to broaden your shoulders
-Sweetheart neck lines
-Shoulder design detailed clothes
-Colourful tops or blouses
-Neutral bottoms
-Strapless clothes
-Tops with layers
-Cardigans
-Scarf
-Tops with wide sleeves
-Padded or push-up bra
-Dark coloured pants and skirts
-Skirts that reach the knee or ankle (short skirts lay emphasizes on your wide hip)
-Bold earings
-Avoid crop tops (as they drag attention to your hips)
Triangle body types vary from person to person, so what looks great on one body may not be the most flattering on another


INVERTED TRIANGLE BODY TYPE


I'm sure you've guessed it by now that the inverted triangle shape has the upper body (aka. bustline) wider and disproportionate to the lower trunk region (aka. hips) with a defined waistline still.

The question becomes, "How do you get an inverted triangle to look like an hourglass?"…

You got it! By redirecting attention away from the upper body, and towards the lower region (aka. hips).



WHAT TO WEAR
Wear clothes that draw attention to your lower body
-Wear skirts or pants with pattern
-Wear skirts with lots of material and designs
-Wear aline skirt
-Wear coloured shoes
-Wear plain tops with solid colour
-Wear darker colours on top and lighter on the bottom
-Pleated and flared skirts
-Bubble and tulip styles.
-Wide legged or flared at the bottom pants.
-Avoiding big shoulders and a lot of details on top
-Avoid clothes with shoulder pads
