What is the Security guarantee for Corpers in IKA LGA of Akwaibom State? Being fully aware of the hostile reputation of the residents of the community. For years now no corper has been able to see the chairman of the local government, whose responsibility is to reassure corpers of their safety most especially during this election period. The stories here are scary. Can indigines of this area enlighten us(the entire corpers here are oblivious of how things happen cos we have been isolated for long out of fear of the indigines) on what's applicable here. If the chairman is scared of coming to see the corpers here, what is the fate of we corpers who are serving here.

N.B: Some of us have already had first hand experiences on how hostile some of the community indigines can be.

Your safety is guaranteed. We dont harm Non-Idigenes.
We value them much more than ourselves.

We have coppers serving in Ika and they can testify to that. Even the school where you will do your primary assignment would take care of you VERY well.

But...... the male folks enjoy more than the Femails.

We love coppers so much and we respect them.

Dont Bother about accommodation, Feeding, Transport fare, Water and the basic things you would need find difficult is other States, they will be given to you be the residents of Ika Free of Charge.

Fruits, Oil, Garri, etc will all be given to you. The parents of the students will bring them to your house. They will even ask their daughters to always make sure you donr lack water/Other things.

Am not boasting!

Please you can verify this from other Coppers who have served there.

All you need is just to be Gentle/Cool. Ika people like Gentle and cool looking peopls.

If you are a male Copper, u go Bleep die. But please handle my girls with care cos they re dangerous. Dont try to ride Over them.

I guess your speaking from the perspective of someone who hasn't been home in a while. Cos am in Ika right now and am yet to see the welcoming and hospitable traits you mentioned here. Besides your chairman hasn't addressed corpers both past and present for once. Ironically the only friends we have here are the police and sss who share the same fear and apprehension that we do. Owing to the fact that a police DPO was shot dead in his premesis which is the security village where most corpers reside. We just want assurance of our safety from the number one indigine of this place who is the chairman. A simple address would go a long way in reassuring us that we are really welcome. Most of us come here and serve and leave as strangers, we don't mingle with the locals cos of the reputations and personal experiences some corpers have had.

My take on hostile host community is that you treat them the way you want to be treated. If they are actually hostile, don't mind that. Just:

- be hospitable to them
- learn a bit of their language (at least their language)
- don't argue with them on their beliefs
- participate in their communal development activities
- treat them well not minding how they treat you
- tell your other colleagues to do the same

With time, they'll learn to love and care for their visitors. If all these fail, speak with/write NYSC officials at the state secretariat and see them alay your fears. I wish you a safe and violence-free completion of the service year. Greetings from Minna, North-Central Nigeria.

Op I dont kno if its the same ika tat I com from u r talking about... If it's about the chairman not addressing corpers..... tat one might b true... but you talking about violence suprises me. Ika is a very homely n nice place.....
