The APC rally organized by out-going Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to drum up support... for his vice presidential ambitions have come and gone, but it left more questions than answers. Even though the gov said it was to mark the seventh year anniversary of the Supreme Court judgment that handed him a bizarre judgment, the tone and manner at which selected “supporters of the governor” tried in vain to impress the few national visitor’s calls to question the type of leader Gov Amaechi is. But that is a discussion for another day.

From plundering the Rivers State treasury of billions of Naira in sponsoring the APC in order to gain relevance and junketing the length and breadth of Nigeria seeking attention to the hosting of high-end all-expense-paid gatherings for the party, to gifting money to Osun State to pay salaries of civil servants, even while Rivers State civil servants are owed months of unpaid wages, Gov Amaechi has done enough to be accorded due respect in the APC.

But hard as it may sound and usual with the APC, its national leadership has shown little or no regard to the VP-seeking governor. Apart from those whom observers refer to as the tribal owners of the party, the APC has shown serious disdain to any other bed fellow. This was quickly noticed by Niger State governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu and others who made a quick detour when they tried to pith tent with the APC.

The national chairman of the APC Chief John Odigie Oyegun showed this disregard to its full extent when he made his speech at the Amaechi rally. While referring to Gov Amaechi, he called him “CHIBUZOR” rather than his real name CHIBUIKE. This brought a ‘loud silene’ from the crowd to which sitting former military dictator General Muhammadu Buhari smiled in disbelief.

On the surface, this may seem a simple mistake, but considering the personality that made such ‘mistake’ and the block he represents their interest– the South-West APC, it becomes very obvious that he is playing out a natural script of the ‘owners of the party’, and has told Gov Amaechi to his face that he is ‘inconsequential’ to them. That is if the governor is wise enough to understand.

Could Chief Oyegun had made such huge mistake on APC personalities like Adams Oshiomwhole, Raji Fashola, Rabiu Kwankwanso or even Rauf Aregbesola? I doubt it! This simply means that despite bankrolling the party, Gov Amaechi is not in their memory, neither does he mean much to them.

The absence of the South-West APC leaders and this “Chibuzor” debacle should be a big writing on the wall for Gov Amaechi. It’s either they don’t like him or they don’t want him, either way, he has been told in bold terms that he is ‘inconsequential’.

What next will Gov Amaechi do (that is if it downs on him that indeed he seems inconsequential to the APC project)? Will he stay true to the great American moral and social philosopher Eric Hoffer who stated that “We are more ready to try the untried when what we do is inconsequential”. Will he do the untried? Whatever he decides to do next, he should have it in mind that same Eric Hoffer also stated that “Rudeness is the weak man’s imitation of strength”

That was a fatal mistake from Chief Oyegun. Just like you stated, guvnor Chibuzor (sorry Chibuike) should read the hand writing boldly written on the wall against him. I couldn't still believe that Amaechi has cleared the salaries of Osun state civil servants (when his own state needs it more), should I call this benevolence or the "devil's gift" whom will always get its gift back by any means? ...so much from the loquacious Guvnor Chibuzor, I mean Chibuike.

During President Obama's campaign back in 2008 in one of the Democratic Party cacuses, a party chieftain referred to Obama as Osama, which caused a big stir but Obama stood up collected the mic, and corrected the fellow which drew several laffs.
Obama later became President and the sun still rises from the east and sets in the west.
So if APC national chairman refers to Chibuike as Chibuzor (God first) then it may be a blessing.
