The All Progressives Congress has said the Presidency needs a “refresher course in
history”if it is not aware that a leader has had cause to resign in the course of a war in which his or her country was involved in.
In a statement in Abuja on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party reminded the Presidency that Neville Chamberlain resigned as British Prime Minister on May
10, 1940, after Adolf Hitler forced the allies
to retreat from Norway.
”According to available information,
Chamberlain led Britain through the first
eight months of World War II but had to
resign after the Allies were forced to retreat
from Norway, because of his belief that a
government supported by all parties was
essential for the unity needed to defeat
Adolf Hitler. The resignation paved the way
for Winston Churchill, who later became the
hero of the War,” it said.
APC therefore said the call by former Lagos
State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on
President Goodluck Jonathan to resign in
view of the insecurity in the country and
the fact that some parts of Nigeria had
been occupied by terrorists was neither
extraordinary nor unprecedented.
”The call by one of our leaders is about
taking responsibility. President Jonathan is
the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed
Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If
under his watch Nigerian territories are
being annexed progressively by insurgents,
and all that he has demonstrated so far is
sheer cluelessness and incompetence, it is
time for him to take responsibility and quit
in the national interest, to pave the way for
a leader who can lead the country to
victory,” the party said.
It said all the blame game and name calling
by the presidency, targeted at the
opposition, constituted a mere distraction.
APC added, ”The Presidency is right to say
that when terrorists attacked the US in
September 2001, the leaders of the
Democratic Party did not demand a
resignation of President George Bush but
rather they rose in defence of the American
nation to support the various measures
taken by the President to defeat the Al-
Qaeda terrorists.
”What the Presidency forgot to say,
however, is that Americans would not have
rallied behind then President Bush if he had
been photographed snuggling with any
sponsor of Al-Qaeda as President Jonathan
did with one of the alleged sponsors of
Boko Haram in Chad.
“Americans would not have rallied behind
Bush if 9-11 had occurred not just once but
twice or thrice, because it would have
shown that the President is simply
incompetent to lead.”
The party believed Tinubu’s call was
justified over the successful annexation of a
substantial part of the North-East by the
terror group.
It said, ”President Jonathan watched
helplessly as Boko Haram moved from
Sambisa Forest to take over a large chunk
of territory in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe
states and proclaim a Caliphate. President
Jonathan watched helplessly as Boko Haram
abducted and took away almost 300 girls,
holding most of them for over 200 days
and still counting.
“His Administration is even mocking and
harassing those who are campaigning for
the release of the girls. No people in the
world will give such a leader unconditional
support.
”Therefore, even if no leader in history has
ever resigned during war (even though we
have now proved that is not correct),
nothing prevents President Jonathan from
becoming the first leader to do so. After all,
never in the history of any nation has
incompetence and cluelessness been
exhibited by any leader, as President
Jonathan has done, when the country is at
war.”

Stop Feeding the Nation with Lies!
so far, President GEJ is right on this:
No president has resigned in war time.

Chamberlain was not president.
Chamberlain was not a head-of-state.

I see you have changed the title of your claim but you lies are getting even bigger.

So, Okupe's reply was an examination for them?
They now went into research. Of all the wars, it is only World War 11 of about 80yrs ago they could make reference to?

Oh boy why the insult? A prime minister is the head of govt but not the commander in chief of the armed forces. But a president is both.

you set the polity on fire and then ask the president to resign...you chop winch!!! the fire will surely consume them alongside their entire generations. its good we condemn evil, BH did not start its operations recently with GEJ in power. If the APC continue in this roadmap, they will only force the electorates to vote GEJ out of pity rather than ideological reasons

I'm a non partisan citizen, but these APC guys are making me see reasons to take a stand , Why are they always seeking attention and heating up the polity?... these are trying times and all hands must be on deck to salvage the situation. come 2015, Nigerians will decide who their leader will be, but for now, GEJ is still the president.

when 2011 election ends and some promised to make the country ungovernable because Jonathan is President

Anybody asking Jonathan to resign at this moment as pre-requisite for the crisis to end or at least all political parties supporting the war against Boko Haram then such people are simply enemies of State and should be monitored for their involvement in Boko haram activities

It is now obvious that APC by this statement have declared where their interest and ambition is.

To blow the country into submission just because they dont like GEJ.

APC should stop deceiving nigerians.if anyone can care to do proper research or get the book,a motive for a mission,it would be deduced that chamberline was forced to resign rather than face the ignomity of being impeached or resign
.APC should muster enough force in the senate to force him to resign or be impeached and not just resorting to cheap media punches

This is something they don't understand. They think that stoking the polity with violence will make people want a change in government, it would end up make people supporting the government, because who wants to vote for a man or party that refuses to condemn violence, but keeps using it as a tool for politics... one can only imagine what would happen to the country should such people come to power.

May Nigerians never witness such in Jesus name...
