The Umaru Yar'adua government acted on its threat to prevent the former Chairman of the economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu from graduating from the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Nigeria's elite personnel training school in Kuru near the city of  Jos, Plateau state.

Ribadu, who was to graduate this morning, was ordered to leave the venue of the event by the head of security of NIPSS. Security agents acting on the orders of the government then dragged him out.

SaharaReporters learnt that Michael Aondoakaa, Nigeria's controversial Attorney General and Minister of Justice, and Deputy Inspector General of Police Hafiz Ringim, visited the institute last night to deliver the order by Yar'adua not to allow Ribadu to participate in today's graduation ceremony.

After Ribadu was dragged out of the ceremony, security officials also removed his wife, his six kids and 40 guests who had come to witness the ceremony from the auditorium. His children wailed as security agents removed them from the ceremony today.

A source at NIPSS told SaharaReporters that Aondoakaa, who has created a reputation as the most openly corrupt attorney general in Nigeria’s history, spoke with fury last night as he asked officials of the institute how they could allow a man fighting against the government to graduate from NIPSS.

The institute had hurriedly printed another set of brochure that listed Ribadu as a “Deputy Commissioner of Police” after the earlier one listed him as a Deputy Inspector General of Police, a position from which he was recently demoted as his persecution by the Yar'adua regime reached a boiling point.

SaharaReporters learnt that Aondoakaa did not participate in the official graduation ceremony chaired by Goodluck Jonathan, Yar'adua's colorless deputy.

Since Ribadu’s removal from the EFCC, the regime of Yar'adua has hunted him on different fronts using myriads of security agencies and tainted politicians to carry out its designs.

A few days ago, a Federal High Court judge denied Ribadu's requests to be protected from harassment by the government, the EFCC and the office of the nation's attorney general, whose bitter relationship with Ribadu led to his exit from the EFCC.

A source at Aondoakaa’s office told SaharaReporters that the attorney general was urging Yar’adua to arrest Ribadu and make him face pre-prepared charges bordering on treason and insubordination.

In a secret circular, the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) has ordered all security agencies at national border posts to arrest or incapacitate Ribadu should he be found fleeing the country. The secular described Ribadu as a “dangerous renegade police officer.”

I think it is unfortunate for the present government to go round 'witch' hounting the young police officer. Despite the fact that Ribadu might have not done it perfectly, but he has created an institution. The mandate given by EFFC is no different to the police money laundery department, ICPC, Code of Conduct Burea/Tribunal. These instutitions exist just like any other agency in Nigeria, doing nothing and collecting allocations. Yar'adua and Aondoko should forget about this young and get ahead with governance. What can we say with a government without Ministers for nearly 2 months? Isnt this rediculous?

Yaradua will not be President forever, that is what I know.

Micheal Aondoakaa will find himself in Jail one day, certainly.

all these years of meritorous service blemished by his obeying obasanjo's directive to witch hunt some of his political associates,he burnt his bridges by going against the man that brought him to aso rock(atiku)and stepped on so many toes thinking obj will always be there for him,see how the man betrayed him now by leaving him to be devoured by wolves in agbada and babariga, im sure his legacy as the head of e.f.cc. can never be erased as he did stuffs that has never been done before in nigeria, and he ll ave learnt a bitter lesson about playing politics, if i were ribadu, ill quietly go under the radar and go back to the likes of atiku and others that i have stepped on their toes asking for forgiveness,go back to obj and just waitand bide his time till the ill wind blows over, as im sure the likes of obj, atiku and others will definitely have a use for him if not now,in future when they have to make a move on yar adua or his associates

What are they trying to achieve by arresting the guy? I just cant understand their problem. They are just afraid. They feel he knows too much. That is the problem of Nigeria. Once someone try to excell they look at him as treat to their success. Instead of them to focus their energy on fighting armed robbers, they are wasting their time, our resources and 100s of man work hours just to make one man unhappy. It is nothing other than vengeance. And it is in our blood. Im so angry with this. Why wont they allow him to graduate? He is humble enough to accept to go NIPSS in the first place. If he had wished he would have left the police and leave the country. But he decided to stay. Cant they just be reasonable enough and focus on governace. Im just very angry today and very bitter. I feel so bad. How do they expect people to make sacrifice to make the country great. That is how they will go after Soludu very soon.

ribadu has paid his dues in the building of this nation. history will judge him as a courageous young man.

listen, freedom and democracy comes with a price.ask the americans, ask the british etc. nigeria will continue to derail . . perhaps . . forever (and this is not a curse but a simple statement of a fact that is bound to happen wether it is said or not). . . . until our people step up to fight the evil in our country. that fight, which is against evil in high places will not come easy. there will be fatalities, horror, humiliation etc. ngige nearly paid with his life for fighting against the forces that held anambra state, ribadu has fought his own, and is paying the price. but nigeria needs millions of people who will do this kind of fight. and not just 2 people. . . otherwise . . . . . we are going to implode

@ ribadu,
weep not, brother, history will smile on you and your children . . you stood up and made a difference in your generation. you were far from perfect, yet you made an impact. you are a true nigerian hero

@TOPIC

All of a sudden, Ribadu became the problem with nigeria?

Apart from the chocolate/dark skin, there's absolutely nothing one can be proud of in Africa and nigeria to be precise.
Hatred, corruption, cowardice, illiteracy(excused), laziness, voodooism, wickedness and hypocrisy can be found in this group of people. Anything that represents bad. It is simply their comfort zone.

I just can't take these nightmares anymore. angry

Yar'Adua & whoever is involved in the Orchestration of this crap, is being petty plain & simple.

The Ribadu issue could have been handled differently.

They could have eased him out of the police entirely (with his DIG status) with a couple of rumors about his career leaked to the media (eg. the scandal about how his cronies acquired seized 419 properties etc) .

Anyways on Ribadus part, i thot he was said to be from one untouchable family up north. So why all the persecution?
