The federal government on Wednesday approved sundry contracts for road construction and infrastructural development in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the tune of N100.2billion.

According to the approval made at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, the sum of N43billion was doled out for the upgrade of the section 3 of the 15KM East-West Road, from Port Harcourt to (Eleme Junction) to Onne Port Junction Road in Rivers State, while N56.2 billion was earmarked for the upgrade of infrastructure in the FCT.

Briefing journalists after the weekly FEC meeting, Supervising Minister of Information, Mohammed Nurudeen said Council also approved the award of contract for the upgrading of the 15KM of the East-West Road Section III: Port Harcourt (Eleme Junction) to Onne Port Junction Road in favour of Messers Reynolds Construction Company in the sum of N43,869,381,730.23 with a completion period of 18 months.

He said it has been established that when the original contract for the dualisation of the East West Road Section III (Port Harcourt to Eket) was awarded in 2006, the 15KM section between Port Harcourt and Onne Port Junction which was dualised in 1999, was in fair condition and was therefore not included in the major reconstruction.
