COMPACT PERSONALITY PROFILE OF PROF. RICHARD KING.






BIRTH AND FAMILY



Prof. Richard KING was born on 17thMay 1958 into the family of Chief John King Usoro MBE [deceased] of the Nung Awu Immediate FamilyNucleus and the Atontia Extented Family Linkage, both of IkotEbok Villageand Idua Clan in the present Eket Local Government Area [LGA] of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Chief John King was theHead of Idua Clan until his demise in 1975 at the age of 105 years.



EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND



Primary and Secondary Education



The Basic Education of Prof. Richard King commencedat St. Gregory’s Primary School, Ikot Ebok, Eket where he obtained the First SchoolLeaving Certificate (FSLC ~ Distinction) in 1972. He proceeded to the NigerianChristian Secondary School, Ukpom, Abak LGA, where he took and passed the O’Level General Certificate of Education [GCE] examination in 1976 while still inClass IV. He served his Secondary School in various capacities including: ClassPrefect, Student Laboratory Attendant and Senior Prefect. He was an excellentfootball player and an outstanding athlete.



Tertiary Education



Prof. Richard King attended the University ofPort Harcourt (UNIPORT) as a pioneer student where he graduated with a BSc (SecondClass Honours, Upper Division) Degree in Zoology (1981), MSc Degree in Hydrobiologyand Fisheries Biology [1985] and Ph.D Degree in Zoology (with major in FisheriesBiology) (1994). During his undergraduate days, Prof King was the President ofthe UNIPORT Chapter of the National Association of Cross River State Students(NACRISS) (1978 – 1979) and President of the National Association of ZoologyStudents (NAZOOS) (1978 – 1979). He was also the Welfare Officer of thePostgraduate Students’ Union (1982 – 1983).



Others



In the year 2001, Prof. King spent a tenureas Biodiversity Research Scientist in the Laboratoire d’Ichtyology,Musee Royal de l’Afrique Centrale, Tervuren, Belgium while in 2006, he attendedthe Word of Faith Bible Institute, Living Faith Church Worldwide for the BasicCertificate Course (BCC). In 2007, Prof. King received a brief lecture at the Harvard BusinessSchool, HarvardUniversity, Boston, USAduring a Study Tour on Corruption.



EMPLOYMENT CHRONICLE



Prof. Richard King devotedly served as ayoung Tutor in Science School, Hong in the present Adamawa State during themandatory National Youth Service Corps Programme in 1981/82. He joined theservices of the erstwhile University of Cross River State as a Lecturer and ResearchScientist in 1984. He later transferred his services to University of Uyowhere he held several posts of responsibilities including:

[2] Pioneer Head, Department of Fisheries& Aquaculture

[3] Acting Dean, Faculty of Agriculture

[4] Pioneer Director, Center for Wetlands &Waste Management Studies

[5] Director, Remedial Directorate

[6] Chairman & Member of SundryCommittees and Panels



Prof. King rose rapidly through the ranks tobecome the First Professor of Fisheries & Aquaculture of the University ofUyo and the First Professor Product of the University of Port Harcourt. Heserved as an Environmental Consultant on several Baseline Environmental Studies(BES), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Post ImpactAssessment (EPIA) projects in the Niger Delta. Prof. King was an EIA ReviewPanelist for the Federal Ministry of Environment for a timeframe of over seven(7) years.



SCHOLARLY SUMMITS ATTENDED



Prof. King has attended a minimum of thirty-five[35] major National and International Scientific and/or Professional summitsincluding workshops, conferences and symposia.



INTELLECTUAL PUBLICATIONS



As a judicious scientist and prolific writer,Prof. King has authored and/or coauthored a minimum of fifty-six (56) JournalArticles; six (6) Edited Conference and Workshop Articles; seven (7) TechnicalReports; five (5) Books/Book Chapters; and nine (9) other Scholarly Articles.Prof. King also Edited five (5) Journals/Books and Refereed five (5) Journals.

Prof. Richard King is happily married to aloving and caring wife, Lady Laurel King who originally hailed from Ikot OkuNtuen in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Her father was Mr. Stephen S. Ibanga[deceased]. She holds the following qualifications: MSc [Environmental HealthManagement]; Bachelor of Pharmacy [B. Pharm.]; Higher National Diploma [HND ~Nursing Education]; General Nursing Certificate; and Community MidwiferyCertificate. Lady King is an Environmental Health Scientist, Pharmacist,Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife. She is a dedicated Christian andDeaconess of Living Faith Church Worldwide. She is also a holder of theprestigious Chieftaincy title of Obongawan Ikikke Uyo. The marital unionof Prof. and Lady King is blessed with five [5] children.



RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION



Prof. Richard King is a Devout Christian andDeacon of the Living Faith Church Worldwide [aka Winners Chapel].
