It's do or die for African kings Nigeria in Congo

Nigeria are under pressure to win by at least two clear goals in Congo on Saturday to stay on course for a place at next year’s AFCON.

The African champions are in danger of missing out on AFCON 2015 as they are third on four points from as many matches and face second-placed Congo in Pointe-Noire, who stunned the Super Eagles 3-2 in Calabar in September.

South Africa are top of Group A with eight points and will qualify for the tournament proper should Nigeria fail to beat hosts Congo on Saturday.

Coach Stephen Keshi has been re-instated after he was earlier replaced by Shuaibu Amodu and Villarreal striker Ikechukwu Uche has been recalled after he was overlooked for more than a year.

Efe Ambrose has said God will help Nigeria beat hosts Congo in a must-win AFCON tie Saturday and improve their chances of qualification.
"We are fully prepared for the game against Congo. I am calling on God and I believe he will bless us, crown our efforts with victory against Congo by his grace," said Ambrose, who was not listed for the team’s last qualifier against Sudan which Nigeria won 3-1 in Abuja with Ogenyi Onazi playing at right full-back.

Le Roy issues warning:


Congo coach Claude Le Roy said the visiting Nigerians could expect a vicious onslaught during the highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations fixture at the Municipal Stadium in Pointe-Noire on Saturday.

During the first fixture in Calabar earlier this year, Congo breached the Nigerian defence three times, to secure a dramatic victory. Le Roy is confident that his players will have the capacity to build on the momentum created during the current Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

"I know that the Eagles are going to descend on us. We’ve mapped out our plans to attack them as well as defend effectively to frustrate them," Football411 website reports Le Roy as saying.

The fact that Nigeria will have to chase the result this weekend, has been well documented. It is a ploy that Le Roy has prepared for and one which he plans to exploit.

"The danger in this game is that we might use counter-attacks to see off the Eagles,’’ added a confident Le Roy.

"We would have to plan effectively to attack and at the same time recover and defend well. We will guard against counter attacks."

Congo have accumulated seven points during this qualifying campaign, which is three more than Nigeria who currently occupy the third spot in the Group A standings. A defeat for Nigeria will almost certainly ruin their campaign

Nigeria will be on the march again towards qualifying for the Orange Africa Cup of Nations when the Super Eagles engage the Red Devils of Congo at the Stade Municipal in Pointe Noire on November 15th.

day four to pick up a first win in what surely has been a rough patch for the Super Eagles
The crisis at the Nigeria Football Federation looked to have overshadowed the team's quest on the pitch as Amaju Pinnick and Chris Giwa have gone full throttle for control of Nigeria's football.

Matters got to a head when Stephen Keshi, who had earlier been relieved from his post as the Super Eagles gaffer after the Sudan win last month, suddenly made a comeback to the team and will now lead the Super Eagles against Congo this weekend.
Congo are also in dire straits after a impressive start to the campaign which started with 3-2 win over Nigeria away. The Red Devils haven't won in the last two games and even lost at home to the Bafana Bafana.

Nigeria have a herculean task ahead in Pointe Noire. The Eagles are condemned to win, anything short of that will spell and end to her dream of defending the title.

Sitting in third place on four points, the best Nigeria can hope for is 10 points from the remaining games to qualify or at least have a shot as the best third placed side int he qualifying series.

Stephen Keshi knows he is on the knife's edge and will need his wards to produce a near perfect game and pull the rabbit out of the hat in Pointe Noire to get the points on deck.

Thievy Bifouma: The Almeria forward needs no introduction to Nigerian fans. He was the main man in the Congolese side that ran the Eagles ragged in Calabar on match day one.

Bifouma, who is on loan at Almeria from another Spanish side Espanyol was on target last weekend against Barcelona and will hope he can reenact same against Nigeria.

Blessed with pace and good dribbling skills, Claude Leroy will look to him to pull the strings for the Red Devils when they meet the Super Eagles and hope they can eke out maximum points against the reigning African champions.

Ahmed Musa: The Nigeria forward has been in a rich vein of form lately for his CSKA Moscow side especially in the Uefa Champions League where he tormented the Manchester City back line to no ends.

Super eagles lacks what it takes to win an all important match like this. Only luck, not their ability can make the team beat the Congolese side. But I believe more in hard work, preparedness, determination and winning spirit than in prayer and luck.
