NASS Invasion: PDP Makes U-turn: Condemns Police And Calls For Probe by NgeneUkwenu(f): 4:41pm On Nov 21, 2014
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has demanded full investigation into the incident at the National Assembly, which led to the shutdown of the legislative complex on Thursday.

The party asked the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, to institute an inquiry to unravel the circumstances and facts surrounding the development within the next 72 hours.

It is the second time the ruling party would react to the chaos that trailed the reconvening of the House of Representatives to consider President Goodluck Jonathan’s request to extend the emergency rule in three North East states – Yobe, Adamawa and Borno — ravaged by insurgent activities.

The party had on Thursday lampooned the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal and other lawmakers who forced their way into the chamber wondering what would have happened in the absence of security operatives. The party said the police merely carried its constitutional duties of keeping law and order.

Mr. Tambuwal was a PDP member until October 28 when he defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

In the latest statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, the ruling party said the sanctity of the National Assembly as an arm of government and citadel of democracy must be upheld at all times and that the matter should not be shrouded in controversy and accusations.

It said, “Whilst we acknowledge that due to the security challenges in the country, the security agencies are within their constitutional powers to search individuals and ensure that only responsible and duly accredited persons gain entrance into the National Assembly complex, we wish to state in strongest possible terms that we are with President in not condoning any act that might indicate that the police went beyond their bounds in the incident.
“The PDP is known for its unwavering stand in upholding the tenets of democracy. Our stand for justice, fairness, and equity at all times remains undiluted. In the same vein, President Goodluck Jonathan has been very humble and forthright in upholding these principles and rights of citizens. He has instituted free, fair and credible elections and remains unwavering that his ambition does not worth the blood of any Nigerian.

The PDP said it believed that there was no need to shroud the development in controversy, stressing “In this regard, we call for a full investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident within the next 72 hours. Nigerians deserve to know the truth at all times.”

Typical Of Evil Party: They have Just Made The Inspector General Of Police The Fall Guy Here!

However no amount of after-thought press releases by the SaTANs/jonathan, will restore the left over goodwill he squandered yesterday, in a bid to undemocratically destroy one arm of government, in order to perpetuate himself in power against the wishes of the majority of Nigerians!

Jonathan/shepopo pack and go!

Nigerians are tired of your wickedness, vindictiveness, Cluelessness and selfishness!

Pls change the title of this thread. There's no U-turn made.

The PDP has expressed their displeasure on the fence jumping attitude and maintained their first statement that the police is right in their constitutional duties of screening individuals but told the IG to investigate and revert if the police went beyond their bounds.

Its a long seasonal movie and the revelations might startle you.

How can the police be asked to probe themselves,we are not kids.
Just apologise to the legislators and sack the IGP,though he's but merely a pawn, receiving orders from ogas higher than the speaker (d president, pdp chair,1st lady, senate president, deputy president/senate pres)

Bunch of confused never- mean- well. They speak from both side of their mouth.
Now this is my take on the NASS fracas yestrday. Its an act of shame and a joke taken too far by the Nigerian police authorities and other security agencies. Its a confirmation of the level of inpunity being witnessed at this time. Sadly enough, only those whose brain are still intact that will see the kind of embarrasment this has caused this nation, while those whose reasoning equates with that of a chicken will dance and celebrate such dirty acts. The NPF and other security agencies shud know that they have a duty of protecting lives and properties of citizens of this great Nation irrespective of political divide. Those who bath themselves in inpunity, shud remember that history is taking account.

How can you ask the one who commits a crime to investigate the same crime?

This is me thinking aloud but with Nigerian politicians, you can never know

Police did their job yesterday, based on information available to them. If you think the police crossed any line, you are free to seek justice in court.

Someone created a thread earlier where he wrote about the possibility of Jonathan scoring a huge political point from the fracas at NASS yesterday. His thread depicted a possible "statement" Jonathan could issue and this writeup above bears some semblance to what that guy posted!!

Are you sure PDP hasn't plagiarised a nairalander's work here?? shockedshocked

How can anyone who have a functioning brain justify the sacrilege carried out by the police yesterday except a senile and docile person.
