For residents of Ibadan, the ancient capital of Oyo State, this is a period of sleeping with all the eyes opened as armed robbers returned to the city once again on Saturday, killing night guards at Yemetu area of the city.
It would be the third strike of the robbers in the state capital in a week as they came calling last week Thursday, robbing three commercial banks almost simultaneously; killing four policemen while the number of civilian casualties have been on the increase.
The robbers were also on duty on Friday when they attacked another bank at Apata area of the city on Friday while a filling station around the Lead City University was also attacked yesterday, carting away another unspecified amount of money.
The six-man gang in the early Saturday raid, according to eyewitness report, visited the Yemetu Agip area of Ibadan in the early hours and held hostage residents of the area, with the two night guards, who put up resistance, shot dead.
The victims were identified by the police as Bayo Ajayi and Ganiyu Oyebode.

The robbers broke into some houses and stole their properties. Aside the two night guards that were killed,, two other persons also sustained injuries.
Assistant Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abayomi Adeniji, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, told THISDAY last night that the residents were held hostage and so could not reach the Police for instant assistance.
"The robbers carted away some unspecified amount of money and several other valuables from the residents".
He added that even with the late information, the police team dispatched to the area on rescue mission was able to arrest five suspects in connection with the incident. He said the suspects were undergoing investigations.
The police image-maker boasted that the command, acting on a tip-off, was able to nip in the bud, another robbery plan at the new Gbagi market on Friday while the suspected armed robbers were arrested.
Checks by THISDAY revealed that the arrested persons were discovered loitering around a branch of the First Bank and quickly alerted the Police who mobilised to the area, shooting into the air which led to the arrest of the persons.
The action created momentary apprehension in the area as residents scampered about, apprehensive that the men were again around.
Adeniji however clarified that it was not really a case of armed robbery, but that of a rapid response of the command based on the tip-off, pointing out, "if we interrogate them, and we find that they have any criminal intent, we will prosecute them"

Earlier, I read on some other news website that Nigerian police men were closeby, they were called, but none showed up?
What's the use of Nigerian police is they themselves fear robbers? Rumors has it that our police men are even taking bribes from rich citizens. If so, is there really justice in Nigeria? Are the real thieves behind jail or walking around taking lives.
Are our police men not thieves themselves?
What's the use of policemen when we fear them?

There's a crime in point X, one calls naija police, he runs to point Z, fearing robbers and cults.

If you were in trouble, who would you rather go to? Policemen or Robbers? What's the difference?

They could be useful, depending on who u re. If u re a governor, senator, president etc then they re useful. If u re an arm robber and u need ammunitions for operations, then they can be very useful.

I sincerely think living in Nigeria would be much more safer and stressless, if the Nigerian Police Force was scrapped.
