Real Madrid remove ‘cross’ from badge amid Abu Dhabi sponsorship deal

After signing a deal with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Real Madrid have taken the decision to remove the ‘cross’ from the top of their badge, over fears it may offend Muslim fans in the region.



The partnership was unveiled at an official club press conference this week, where the club presented badges with a seemingly apparent exclusion. In the presentation of a club credit card that has been launched in accordance with the bank, the Real Madrid badge was used without the ‘cross’ that normally sits atop of the crown.

According to local sources in Madrid, the move was made by the club amid fears that the ‘cross’ would ‘offend Muslim fans’ from the region, despite its long association as a symbol of Los Blancos.
