KABUL, Afghanistan –  The South African head of an international aid group, his two children and an Afghan were killed in an attack on a guesthouse in Kabul, an official said Sunday, as the Afghan capital's police chief resigned amid a spike in deadly violence.

Police chief Gen. Mohammed Zahir told reporters that the four were killed in the attack the day before, revising an earlier toll. He gave no ages for the children, and did not identify the organization.

Zahir said one of the three attackers wore a police uniform. The attack was the second in as many days on guesthouses occupied by foreigners.

Zahir's spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai confirmed later that Zahir had resigned his post, without providing further details.

Kabul has seen eight deadly suicide attacks against high-profile targets in the past 16 days, one of the most violent periods in the capital in years. In recent days, four foreigners -- including an employee of the British embassy -- have been killed, and dozens of Afghan civilians have been killed and wounded.

The attacks point to a still-potent Taliban insurgency, and have raised concerns about whether Afghan security forces can protect the country after the U.S. and NATO officially conclude their 13-year combat mission on Dec. 31.

The Interior Ministry has launched a public awareness campaign to encourage Kabul residents to help prevent attacks, said the ministry's spokesman Sediq Sediqqi.

"We are requesting our people to cooperate with their security forces in identifying suspicious people in their areas and preventing terrorist attacks," he said.

Why not call for disbandment of the entire Military establishment?

The NSA, the Defence Minister and Military Chiefs are all professionals and the best Nigeria can offer.

Why is nobody condemning the Military formation and top brass?

If Nigerians want to protest against the Insurgency and Government's ineptitude , they should start demanding for results from the professionals (above mentioned names) and pressure the President to sack them. Until then, every condemnation of C-in-C is either political, bigotry or borne out of resentment as against patriotism and genuine concern.

Was it the people that appointed them? What it the people that protested before he did the honorable thing when he failed in his duties?

If the C-in-C appointed those people, he has the sole power to sack or fire them.

Was it the people who told him to suspend sanusi as CBN governor? Was it the people who asked him.to retire ihejirika and other service chiefs when he did.

Color is not the issue. Rather, it's the personality of the individuals.
Our country is currently over-supplied with lots of characters bereft of honor, integrity, morality and discipline. They enjoy political patronage from a far less patriotic and principled ruler.

"A people that values its priviledges above its principles soon loses both."
~ Dwight D. Aisenhower.

Is Sanusi a Military personnel? For Azazi and Ihejirika the answer is resounding YES

You don't sack the best for a nobody.

Why have those who called for Azazi and Ihejirika's sack suddenly gone dumb?

I just see that Hypocrisy won't allow common sense to prevail in our polity hence it is becoming obvious that we will have to live with this Insurgency until a time we become united in sense of purpose.

I guess you have answered yourself with the YES. Did you see Afghanis on the street demanding sack of the police chief before he resigned?

JonaTAN appointed Baden, Amosu and others, in a good clime Badeh ought to have resigned by now. Even people abroad knew BH was going to attack Mubi for years now, they have tried to take the town 3ce this year yet despite huge budgetary provisions and mobilisation of man and materials the town (his town) fell without a single exchange of fire.

When Iraqi soldiers ran away from Mosul and tikrit without taking on ISIS in May, all the army top commanders in charge of the two formations were jailed, and the army chief retired. That's being proactive and taking action for failure. Who has been punished for the lost of Gwoza, Bama, Michika. mubi, Obi askira, and other places except rank and files accused of mutiny and indiscipline.

Who is "The Best", and who is "A Nobody"?
I'm sure you know that the best is determined by his results.

The fact remains that our beloved country has lost a number of territories and experienced an unprecedented level of carnage and insecurity under the watch of these priviledged opportunists whom you regard as the best.
Even in corporations (which are less complex and less critical than governance), people are forced to do the honourable thing or even fired when they under-perform.
There are laid-down principles and strategies for every human society which prevents a ripple effect of the failures of a few individuals on the entire society. History is rich with such instances and ours must not be different because of political expediencies.

My brother thanks, I watch the broadcast on Al-Jazeera and felt that is a C-in-C who knows what he is doing.

The problem with most pro JonaTAN supporters is that they tend to pass the buck, blame the opposition, and assume the story and fact will be forgotten soon.

Who will even wish this country continue with this charade of a government.

Azazi was fired for his speech wherein he said BOKO HARAM IS THE BRAINCHILD OF THE INTERNAL STRUGGLE FOR POWER BY MEMBERS OF THE PDP, not for anyother reason.

Ihejirika and other service chiefs were fired cos of the internal battle of supremacy between the service chiefs which led to non cooperation and no coordination between them.

Some people here on NL are not ignorant or dull so those who try to cover up for their ogas should know that please.

We are talking of what should be done to win the war in Nigeria.

Iraq where Army Officers and Infantry are resigning in droves to save their lives.

The Iraq example is a joke as I don't see any improvement nor a better strategy from their change upon all the supports from Iran and US Governments.
