Gunshots At Inconclusive APC Ogun Senatorial Primaries by KORLAR(m): 4:39pm On Dec 09, 2014 |
Several gunshots marred Monday’s senatorial primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun Central Senatorial District. The development was linked to an allegation against the Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, of attempting to impose a candidate. Many delegates and other stakeholders, including security operatives, ran helter-skelter when pandemonium broke at the veenue, the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta. PREMIUM TIMES gathered that while the accreditation was going on, speculations dribbled around that one of the aspirants, who has the blessing of an elder brother to the governor, was allegedly holding a parallel election inside the June 12 Cultural Center, a stone throw from the stadium. Following the speculation, some thugs allegedly started shooting sporadically to disperse the voters, a development which rendered the congress inconclusive. After the primary became inconclusive, some protesters poured into the Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre with placards, some of which read, ‘Ogun State APC is sinking’, ‘Amosun is backing those that can not deliver’, ‘Let the right candidate emerge’, ‘Amosun, don’t chose for us’, ‘Let people vote for their choice’, ‘We don’t want imposition’. Meanwhile, three aspirants are angling for the senatorial ticket: a former Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Amosun, Shuaib Salisu; a businessman, Ganiyu Amusat and Lanre Tejuoso. |
