15 Injured In Osun As Secondary School Students Clash by Drniyi4u(m): 3:05pm On Dec 16, 2014
There was pandemonium in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, on Monday, as suspected secondary school student cultists engaged in a violent clash that lasted several hours, leaving no fewer than 15 of them critically injured.Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that the incident was an aftermath of a previous clash, last Friday, involving some students of St. James Anglican Secondary School, Kola Balogun Area and Ansar-U-Deen Secondary School, Iludun, who were believed to be members of rival cult groups.Eye witnesses informed the Nigerian Tribune that trouble ensued when a group of students from St. James Anglican Secondary school swooped on the Ansar-U-Deen as early as 9.00a.m to avenge the treatment meted on a student of the school and, in the process, attacked many students with dangerous weapons. The development forced many residents to stay indoors, as tradersaround Iludun hurriedly closed shops and scampered to safety while the clash lasted.Sources hinted that the rampaging students ran in different directions, thus causing panic, compelling vehicles and motorcycles passing through Oba Adesoji Aderemi, Osogbo East By-pass to make a detour, with a view to avoiding being caught up in the melee.A contingent of anti riot policemen deployed to quell the violent clash had to fire several gunshots into theair at the scene of the incident before normalcy could be restored.According to one of the sources, “some of the injured students were rushed to nearby hospital, where they were treated and discharged,” but a member of staff of the school, who pleaded anonymity, told the Nigerian Tribune that the group that was the main target of the attack had moved its seriously injured members to an undisclosedhospital in the neighbouring town to Osogbo.
