Sweeet business bro. Lazy me know all the ways to do it but just won't start.

You can make money even if you don't know what C# stands for other than a music note. There is app flipping. Buy an app from a developer, then make it for free and add adverts on it by google or whoever you want to use. Then share your links on android forums for faster downloads and the rest. You can also sell it to higher pricers if you've gat a good idea.

Nollyj, you like the edu niche so much. Good for Nigerians. If you are planning to start too, you can start it out in the beauty tips for black babes niche. Health niche too is bubbling up.

I'm hoping to get my system by the end of the month sha. God help me, playstore go hear am.

I am not yet near my target but my revenue has also increased since I published this post. Since this year I have just released one app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=inducesmile.com.completeenglishclassic.

I am planning to develop more. I will write in December the success that I have made so far and why I might not be able to hit the 1 million bench mark.

I wish I have time like I use to but it is for good.

I also have passion for Android development, had my 1st app on google play store mid 2013 too. Since then ive moved to cherish more of Python and Django. I honestly want to teach people from all my vast experiences and knowledges in coding and development as I grow myself. If I can raise substantial number of technology enterprenuers with sustainable businesses in web and mobile tech, it's going to be a dream come true for me. Let's keep on been enthusiastic! Nice one

I know this will not make sense to most people and some will even question if people make money from their android apps in Nigeria. The truth is that some Nigerians make money from their mobile apps the same way some developers in Nigeria are making from web application development.

I started developing android apps by chance late 2013 when a friend told me that he needed a simple android app. With no knowledge of android or mobile development, I went into research and started reading how to develop mobile application. Many months went by before I could wrap my head on it. When I finished with the project months later I decided that mobile application development will be fun to be doing as part-time projects.

I started trying my hands on two different types of applications. When I finished developing the applications I felt some sense of accomplishment. I quickly paid for a publisher account and hosted my apps in Google Play. I kept waiting to see downloads coming but I was disappointed months after. Negative thought of quitting android development came in but I was like since I am doing it part-time let me continue because I do not have much to lose even if I did not make any money.

I took some time out trying to understand why some developers have very successful apps in the store and why my apps are just getting 1 to 5 downloads a day. The more I read and research the better I understand how the Google Play market works.

I changed my mind set about the kind of ideas I previously have in mind to different categories of android apps. After three months of release I started seeing good result. But what happen subsequently surprised me. I started making more money that I previously thought.

The result actually gave me hope to do some more apps. This is end of 2014, a year and some months since I started developing mobile apps. My monthly revenue from my apps is around 200,000 – 250,000 Naira with almost (400,000 downloads)

Come 2015, I have taken a decision to push this revenue to 1 million Naira a month.

I know the question in your mind is how will I achieve this? I do understand that it will be difficult but I believe I can do it. I have made a long list of android apps and games I will develop next year and if many become successful I will be on my way to hit this target.

I will describe and document everything that I am doing to achieve this target on my blog (http://inducesmile.com/blog/) and other interesting information that can help make a mobile app successful.

As a developer, have you drawn up your target for 2015? If you have and want to share, please kindly come forward and do so.

I wish you all happy Christmas and successful 2015
Do developers make money from free android app or paid ones or both?

For free apps you can make money from advertisement.

Paid app is straight forward. Users pay before using it.

@N300/usd you are netting <= $2k/m .Which really is'nt much, Globally speaking. I bet bet they're folks raking in $10k/m and some rare breeds pulling in $1m/year.
I know on apple , the highest percentile pull in $1m+.

$5k/m should be common experience for top coders.

I could be wrong on the estimates though. Correct me.

You might be right.

I am comfortable with what I am making now because it is a passive income. I have a proper job with flexible time. The most important thing for me is I love what I am doing and I am learning everyday. Success comes with time, good planning and hard-work.

May be in two year or in near future I will be making far more than I make today or it can also go bad and I will make nothing. That is life. But I am possitive.

You mistook my comment as me belittling your income. Or saying your achievement is'nt impressive.
Making even a steady $100 /m could be a serious undertaking.

Nope, I did not. I always remind myself that I am on a public forum and everybody is entitle to his or her opinion.

I was trying to tell you that I am not naturally crazy about money. I am glad that I am even making money and I am comfortable with it. Besides, I am still progressing.

I like your analysis. Most especially where you stated that the average amount top developers make is 5000 usd per month. I think that is a reasonable amount. On the other hand, when you consider living standards in different countries you will realize in many countries, earning 5000 usd per month automatically makes you a millionaire.

I have come to realize that there are many variables that aid in money making. If you are working alone, it can be difficult sometimes.

For me, one of the hardest job is promoting your app as a developer with no budget. Excerpt you want to spam the whole internet.

This is what i was trying to say:
if a notable entity were to profile developer income from the playstore or apple app store.
It would rank income according to the national standard , in this case u.s standard.
So say techcrunch, or forbes, or cnn were profiling the mobile app developer income,
their standard of rating would be:
very good: $100k+
medium-good: $60k+
average: 50k+
low: <50k

at 100k+, a developer could consider, quitting his job to do app dev full time. Else,it would considered a side thing.
Even then, it would be advised against as it may not be known how long the bubble will last, since it is not yet an established market.

But what they consider low, in some place is very huge. 50k$, for example is N15m. By nigerian standard that's very high.

The other point about possibility of making 5k/m or even $1m/yr is because i was weighing it against total market: 1 billion+ android devices in the world. Against this backdrop i reasoned, some people should be confidently raking in 5k/m and some outliers could be pulling in $1m/yr (angry bird did, candy crush did).
Again, i'm not comparing you with them or comparing your income. Just saying, an international reporter would classify your earnings as low because their national ranking classifies it as so.
#if you don't understand me, forget it.

You analysis is quite clear and that is the standard the world is using. For sure, in international standard 2200 is considered low.
